I'm about to change my first tire in my AS. Does the hub cap come off first? If so, how best to take it off and put it back without beating it up with a mallet?

Also, how do I find out what torque to apply to the lug nuts?

Loosen the lug nuts, jack the trailer up at the specified spot or use a ramp on the good wheel (assuming 2 axels) then remove the lug nuts. Once the rim and tire are off you should be able to push the hub cap out with your hand.

110 ft-lbs done in 2 stages, i.e. 90 first all around and then up to 110 to finish it off. Make sure you snug them up to 110 again after 40 miles since they often loosen a bit.

Which wheels do you have? Age of your trailer?

The "hubs" on my '08 factory aluminum wheels are a press fit from the inside. Remove the wheel and then you can bump the cap through with the palm of your hand or tap it lightly with a wooden mallet. The chart I've seen says the lugs are torqued to 100 ft lbs.

Hi, the wheel torque thing can be confusing so check your owner's manual. My Safari wheel torque specs are 110 to 120 lbs with the original factory aluminum wheels. I torque mine on the high side, at 120 lbs and recheck them while on the road. My spare tire and wheel is steel and my owner's manual states to torque the steel wheel at 90 lbs. [I haven't used my spare yet] Now for whatever reason that I do not know, the aluminum wheels on the Classics are torqued at 90 to 100 lbs. So it is very easy for someone to tell you what their torque is and it won't be right for you.

This is an '04 Safari with the original 16" aluminum wheels and new tires. I finally found under the maintenance section of the manual that they call for 85 lb-ft torque for these wheels.

I need to replace the fresh water tank drain valve, so the tire in front of it has to come off. I'll check the torque on all the others as I put back the one tire.

Does anyone know how to determine the correct # lb.-ft. torque that should be used on my 16" wheels? I have a 2004 CCD 28' International ... recently upgraded to the larger wheels and Michelin tires. Thanks in advance.
