The code is week and year. The above is the 10th week of 2017.

Date code interpretation corrected in post 11 by superchop.

Good advice but to clarify, the first 2 digits of the date code is the week they made, not the month. In your example, 1017 would be the 10th week of 2017.

We changed all five of our Michelin LTZ 225/75R16s DOT 4917 on our 18 Classic this past Feb. $1,078 c/o Tire Rack for 5 new Agilis Cross Climates which replaced the former LT tire.
As others have stated, it is neither the tread wear or any other form of appearance that matters, it is the AGE and wherein the rule of thumb is to change between every ~3-6 years.
To many including us, running on aged tires it's just not worth the risk and is a relatively low maintenance cost to replace such which spread over time & use buys piece of mind on the road.
Also wise to purchase road hazard as the majority of RV tire damage (particularly with towable trailers) happens in the form of sidewall damage from curbs and other obstructions.

In other damage that is less in control by the driver.
A common tire to get damaged from road hazards is the right rear tire. Debris is usually closest to the curb. The RF tire kicks up the debris and the RR tire takes the debris.
To further the chain of destruction, what the RR tire throws back, the travel trailer takes.

Just buy the new tires. It’s not a difficult decision. You have a trailer worth how many tens of thousands and you’re worrying about a thousand dollars worth of tires that may avoid a blowout that totals your trailer. Find something harder to worry about.
