Smaller dehumidifier

Is anyone aware of a small dehumidifier that uses the same dehumidification process as the larger units? I purchased a couple table-top units from Amazon that did nothing. I just purchased a 30lb 20pint GE model from HD that is too large.

These were a bust:

Crane Dehumidifier, Compact... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B077CLZQNL...p_mob_ap_share

This is too large:

Not the same brand that I found a couple years ago, but.....

What do you mean when you say they did nothing? Did the tanks on those table top units not fill up with water they extracted from the air? Or, did they just not do enough?

I use 2 of these.... one in the front and one in the bedroom. They work great.

^1. This is ours and the fourth one we tried.

An earlier Ivation posted is a compressor-type and good for summertime use because it puts out cool-ish air. At least the three compressor-types we tried put out cool air.

This one is a desiccant-type. It puts out warm air. So not only does it dry the air it adds a bit of warm air.

We use the same one. I had read Desiccant type dehumidifiers work better but was not able to find a smaller unit that was well rated. This one travels in our shower aka closet.

A dehumidifier should be built in standard equipment, but until then I look forward to checking out the suggestions here.

Your comment got me thinking.

There is a considerable amount of space under our lounge. The problem is the intermittent drip during the winter temperatures that we need the dehumidifier. I’d want it to drip externally through a tube like a low point valve but with the intermittent drip I’m concerned about freezing. Is it’s proximity to the furnace enough to prevent freezing?

These units can have a drain tube connected but I just empty the built in catch tray every morning. Draining to outside would be problematic me thinks. It would freeze and back up into the drain container.

The two tabletop units barely removed 1 cup/day. The GE 20qt removed roughly a 2 quarts in 6 hrs, though takes up to much space.

Why didn't I check with you guys two weeks ago? Before I bought my ineffective Crane? Mine ran all night three nights in a row. I got more water wiping the condensation off the window adjacent to the Crane unit than I collected in 8 hours. I am not in a damp location, just 2 people and a puppy in California Central Coast during the day. Maybe Home Depot will take it back. I will get one of those recommended on this thread.

This is what we use: GE https://www.amazon.com/GE-Dehumidifi...s%2C105&sr=1-4

Purchased at Home Depot 3 years ago...night and day difference sleeping/living in your AS when in humid climates...FL, NC, Texas, etc..We store in the shower when traveling; we move use in bed area between twin beds when using during day, and move to the living area at night. When it fills it shuts off and I empty in the sink. It does put out a bit of heated air, but we run the AC so no real problems when using in hot weather. Sure nice sleeping with out humidity all over the AS!

Check the weight of those mentioned on this thread. Some weigh 13#; others weigh 30#.

Another benefit of a dehumidifier...we position it pointing at the towel rack on the cooktop. It dries a dish towel quickly. We also hang this adjustable drying rack on the overhead above the cooktop to dry towels and clothes.

Thanks for the replies. I received my Ivation 14.7 pint Wednesday. So far, working great. It’s removing a ton of water, the reservoir fills up over night. It’s remarkably quiet compared to the GE 20qt, and it’s about 30% smaller which is just enough to keep it from getting in the way. De-humidifiers are a must, I should have done it sooner.

Good choice. IMO, a compressor type is a must, for any serious humidity removal in cool weather.

Ivation vs the GE? The issue with either in summer is heat given from the unit. I know the GE does produce heated air which we try to control with positioning under the AC intake vent, but AC needs to be running to efficiently keep the inside cool in humid climates. Drying towels as some have posted, is not a reason to have one of these units; it's comfort. Also, they do fill with water and can require empty couple times a day/night if you only have small reservoir. We have the 22pint model GE as I mentioned, but I have had to empty middle of the night few times....most everytime we use it, it is full in the morning. So small reservoir like the Ivation mentioned has is not ideal. Neither is noise. So hot air, noise, small reservoir, and size/weight are the main issues IMHO....anyone find something that is ideal without spending $300+?

Gypsydad-

We also use the 22 pint GE unit as well. Seems to be the best of all worlds, and is easy to carry in the trailer or if you have a truck with space.

I do not find the heat to be a significant contributor to a/c performance, and I only have a single 13.5btu penguin. One needs to realize that air conditioning dry air makes for increased a/c performance. It takes a lot of btu to convert water vapor to liquid water. Is it a push compared with the heat given off by the dehumidifier? I don't know, but anecdotally, I believe I get better cooling with a/c + dehumidifier.
