Air Conditioner

The a/c in our motorhome does not work. It was R-12 and we now need R-134. I found a new air compressor at O'Reilly's. Does anyone know if I used the correct info. I told them I have a 1979 Airstream Excella Motorhome built on a Chevy P-30 chassis with a 454 engine. Do I need any other info? I don't want to order it and then get stuck paying a restocking fee because it's not the correct one.

I'm not an expert but I believe there's more to the changeover than just the compressor. I think the receiver/dryer also needs to be changed, and probably some other components as well.

Might be less expensive to scrounge some R-12 for cash off Craigslist.

I changed the compressor/drier on my 1987 Mercedes and just put R134A in with no other modifications. It had been cooling for 7 years.

With that said, later I found another refridgerant called Envirosafe. It is marketed as a R12 and R134A replacement. I currently have it in two vehicles. It works very well.

Are you sure it is the compressor? Did you check the compressor start up capacitor? I just fixed my air conditioner and started with the capacitors. They were both fine. My air conditioner was not working and I discovered it was the motor. If the motor works and you click from fan to air conditioner and nothing happens I would check the capacitor first. when you take off the cover you will see a little door closed by a sheet metal screw. You will see two capacitors side by side. The one that has a red, white and yellow wire is your Compressor capacitor. Get the information off of it and go to a AC company and have them check it. They will sell you one for under 10 dollars

The air won't work unless you are on a 30 amp outlet
