AC Maintenance

Hi Everyone,

Should I be doing some sort of yearly maintenance on my 72 Tradewind
AC system? I have had my Airstream for 7 years and have never had it serviced. I worry about something going wrong when I have to leave
my pups alone with it on.

It is the type of system which stays on constantly...maybe it isn't suppose to do that It definitely did not work well when I had it in the desert with 100 + temps and does just ok when it is 90ish.

Any feedback or suggestions would be helpful.

Shelly

First off, the AC is working fine if it can lower inside temp 25 degrees cooler than outside temp.

Just like your home AC in most parts of the country. Units are sized to meet the cooling load of typical temperature swings that will be within 95% of the time you need to run the unit.

But if you know for a fact you will be in the blazing dessert sun with no shade, your unit will not be able to keep your interior at 70 degrees.

Ideas to help if this would be a serious or ongoing issue would be to park in the daytime shade, or erect a canopy or tarp to add shade over the top of the Airstream. (Meaning something 11-12 feet high with open air circulation. High enough to allow proper air circulation around the AC unit of course.)

Just like shade trees keep you home cooler, same idea.

As far as maintenance, make sure the condensate can drain OK (that the tube isn't blocked) and that cottonwood isn't stuck all over the exterior of the unit.
