Stove cover - simple question

When we got our A/S (1979) it had a Magic Chef oven with the metal cover. In the back of the cover were 2 holes. A handle there seemed rediculous since that was at the hinge. I just saw a photo of someone elses and there are 2 prongs sticking up. What is the purpose of the prongs? It bugged me for some time what those holes were for... now I am just confused.

Here is a really rough picture of our original top. You can barely see the 2 holes at the back of the cover:

The prongs keep the lid from falling all the way back when it's opened. They rest on the back of the stove.

Stove Covers

My first one didn't have a cover and I felt deprived. Now my new one does - and I almost never use it. Once I forgot to put it down while towing and it got sort of jammed up.

Some of the camping world stores have nice replacements - even a few with cutting boards - which might be useful as well as decorative.

I don't know what you'd use to replace the two pins, but I'm sure you'll find something.

Thanks for the replies. That makes sense!

@ Paula - The question was more curiousity than actual use. The oven thermostat got ruined when we renovated our Magic Chef. I broke the copper wire at the base of the control unit and then proceeded to open the thermostat housing up in order to fix it... and things flew out... soo we ordered a new oven from CampersWorld. It already came in once but that unit was dropped off the truck and bent the top all up. Another one is on the way to our house now hopefully in one piece. My parents have a cutting board for their old camper that I think we will use to cover the new one. I think it will be more useful than the metal top. It was just really bugging me what those pin things were for on the old one.
