I had suggested Airstreams with CB radios all use Channel 14 to meet & greet other Airstreamers passing by. This is the channel used at International rallies.
Another mechanism is to use the Airstream Forums Members Map. Normally folks use this to show their home location, but no reason you could not update your traveling locations as necessary.
Ham radio geeks have a great way to know where everyone is in real time via APRS, Automatic Position Reporting System.
All you have to do is plug your GPS into a ham radio with a built in TNC like the Kenwood TH-D7. The GPS reads the satellites to figure out where you are then tells the radio. The radio blabs your position with your call sign to the rest of the state or neighboring states depending on your settings.
Interested folks can see your positions by way of;
An APRS enabled ham radio like the Kenwood TH-D7 or
A laptop with mapping software and the above radio or
A laptop with Google Earth, an Internet connection & aprskml.jar running or
An AvMap G4T (Geosat 4)Navigation system and the above radio.
Note that choice #3 above does not require a ham radio.
APRS is used by search & rescue teams, gas ballooning enthusiasts, managers of trucking fleets, suspicious spouses, etc.
