Smartplug question

I am told my unit will come with the 50a smartplug. I had bought a short 30a to 50a cable for our regular parking spot that now will not work. Seems for the cost of smart plug cables I am better to just use a dog bone at the post and not have a second cable. Any thoughts or what are smart plug folks using for shorter lighter alternate 30a cables? My fig will spend 90% of its time plugged up to 30a since that’s what’s at our spot and 50a is not an option.

Hello!

Might I offer the solution that worked for me:

My problem was I wanted a single cord to go from my trailer (50amp) smart plug to my generator 30amp twist lock.

I purchased an appropriate length of 30amp cord with a twist lock on one side. I didn't care about the other side as I cut it off.

I then replaced the cut off plug with a 50amp smart plug using their cord seal kit.

Now, I have no adapter (dog bone/pigtail) when I use the generator.

Do note, that you'll have to cut a length of one of the wires on the 30amp cord and bridge the two hots on the adapter.

Best!

I think that is the solution I need. I contacted smartplug and they only have their $275 dog bones…. You just jumper or split the 30a hot inside the smartplug?

A jumper is what I used. The single 30amp hot connects to either of the 50amp plug hots, then a separate wire, the jumper, from one hot to the other is all it takes.

Here's a few pictures, except the one that shows the jumper.
