They have been around for years..I have had two and they both failed within the warranty period. Dutifully returned and finally replaced with a regular hose and a heat strip from Home Depot. It is more work, but it has worked for a couple of seasons now.

We looked at those but walked away due to terrible reviews. Nearly everyone had the same story: failed within the first season. We too just rely on heat tape and pipe insulation and it hasn't failed us yet.

I have one, but haven't had the occasion to use it yet. Mainly because the campgrounds I've stayed at in sub-freezing weather didn't have an electrical outlet anywhere near the water supply.
