Made it out of the Socialist Republic of Washington/Oregon through Idaho, Montana, Wyoming and are safely in South Dakota and loving it. Idaho was great as well, liberty abounds. Will see Mt Rushmore tomorrow, not many fearful of the virus here or Idaho, very refreshing

We have not departed yet. We are still weighing our options. We are not afraid to travel, but we are a little concerned about being harassed by others, especially since we are from Florida.

I read a story a couple of days ago about a man in California who was eating a sandwich outdoors at a picnic table by himself when a woman came up to him and sprayed him with pepper spray for not wearing a mask. I know that there are wack jobs everywhere, but if I had been the man who was pepper sprayed, that woman would have eaten her pepper spray, can and all.

I guess that I am a little concerned about confrontational situations while traveling.

We've gone camping two times - late May early June, and the middle of July. We just kept to ourselves as did the other campers, and we didn't experience anything different than what we had previously - except social distancing. We plan to leave again for a couple of months on August 10th, as long as our reroof gets completed.

Thanks for the update, Brian. Your caution and concerns are reasonable IMO. Travel safe . . . which may include staying put, unfortunately.

Brian;
You can add Wyoming to your travel plans as you will be welcomed - Florida plates or not. We camped at the KOA in Sheridan and met a lot of wonderful people from Florida, Minnesota, Michigan, etc. - and all of them and us wearing masks, or keeping a good distance while visiting.

We have been on the road since June 3rd. Florida, Georgia, Tennenesee, Missouri, Iowa, South Dakota, Wyoming, Nebraska over the 4th July, Iowa Wisconsin, Illinois,Ohio at Mother ship and now Michigan. Headed to Traverse City tomorrow and then UP in a week. Campgrounds are very busy with many weekends full with local families. Early travel thru 4th July only had 2 reservations. Our Florida plates have not been a problem and we have talked at a distance with others from Florida as well.

Just cancelled reservation in Maine as that has become too difficult to work out. We have eaten out twice so do most cooking at rig or when we are around family in Iowa and here in Michigan.

Do smart things when shopping for groceries and getting fuel for truck. Wear masks when in public places but not in campground unless we need to make contact at Office our staff.

Be smart, travel safe, don't takes risks or do something you are not comfortable with.

No hurry to get back to Florida!!

I think you are right, whacky folks are everywhere and they are very stressed right now also.

You are very observant and can likely easily avoid or remove yourself from their proximity before they loose their cool.

Having said that we are not traveling right now ourselves.

We will be home tomorrow after being out about 6 weeks, mostly in South Dakota and Wyoming.

Plenty of travelers from all over the country out and about, and I didn’t experience, see, nor hear of one single ugly incident towards or between travelers from anywhere.

Everyone is careful to maintain a safe distance, masks are required in many grocery stores and everywhere inside the Tetons/Yellowstone.

Go, enjoy, use reasonable precautions and don’t be afraid.

We are safer in our RV’s that only we use than those staying in shared residences such as hotels and cabins.

Maggie

They cancelled our early in September reservation in Acadia two days ago and issued a refund, so that made our decision on whether or not to go to Maine much easier. We'll head somewhere else instead.

PS -- Unfortunately that young thread has been closed for further comment, but the OP's info and links are still helpful IMO. This recent NYT article gives a helpful overview of things esp. in the Midwest.

Happy trails,

PS -- Thanks Jeff. I assume everyone knows that the blue text in my earlier post is a "hot link" to your great first post over there?

. . .
Curious for your thinking on this trip vis a vis the various evolving risks out there. We are hoping for a visit to New England in the fall, but the quarantine rules in various states, for incoming non-residents, seem daunting, not to mention that they are also constantly evolving.

How about some of your "Epic" architectural photos, from nearby, while we are waiting? You know, some lemonade from the bitter lemons lying all about . . .

Thanks,

PS -- Are there any moose in Florida?

PS2 . . . FWIW . . . while most of us are all bored at home . . . "moose" is the correct plural of "moose" . . .

"The only correct plural of moose is moose. Sometimes, people add an S to moose, but that is incorrect. Moose derives from Algonquian, a Native American language. It kept the same plural ending it had in its original language instead of adopting the normal S ending of most English plurals."

Peter,
Is this picture from Vermont? I took a motorcycle trip several years ago up through Maine, then across NH, VT, into Canada from Kingston NY, then around Lake Superior, and then back to Missouri. I just remember so many signs like that in Vermont. Fortunately/unfortunately I didn’t see a moose in VT, but several in Canada.
Brian, I hope you get to travel soon. We just got back from WY, MT and SD without any Covid confrontations. Or exposure apparently. I’m pretty bad about watching the news, as I don’t know which states any more are the “hot” ones. I did hear my own state (Missouri) was not looking good though.
Sorry to be so off topic. I really enjoy your trip reports, and look forward to them.
Thx,
Jeff

Survived

Made it back alive, only one wacko encounter and my wife set him straight.
Sandpoint ID, Glacier NP, Mt Rushmore (wonderful night program/lighting ceremony), Sturgis, Deadwood SD, Yellowstone/Grand Tetons, Jackson WY. All wonderful. Jackson was the only place requiring masks be worn

Thx. The trip I mentioned took me through quite a bit of Maine also. Lots of moose warnings. My timing (for moose) must have been off.
Followed the link to the other thread. We won’t be heading to VT this year.

Sorry to read in that recently closed thread, Brian, that you are not undertaking this trip right now. I was looking forward to your detailed posts and fine architectural photos.
