I-85 in Atlanta Area
For those of you that travel thru or around the Atlanta Area, you should probably read this.
There are three ways to get into and out of the downtown area of Atlanta from the north-side of the Metro area.. I-75, I-85 and Ga-400 (An interstate-like road).
I-85 and Ga-400 converge just north of downtown and are elevated for a few miles just around the convergence. Something caused a hug fire under that elevated portion of the two freeways around 6:30 PM this evening. I-85 Northbound has collapsed. The South bound lanes of I-85 are damaged and the northbound lanes of Ga-400 are also damaged. This is going to be a nightmare in one of the "worst traffic" cities in the country. Both roadways are effectively shut down at this point.
This is going to force traffic onto to the only major route into the downtown area, I-75. It's also going to screw up the perimeter hwy, I-285 as people divert around I-85/Ga-400.
Bottom line, just stay away from the Metro area. It's a longer drive, but you won't be pulling yer hair out.
