ATLANTA area campgrounds

Hello!

Does anyone out there have recommendations for campgrounds in the Atlanta, GA area for year-round-camping? We are looking for quiet, family oriented, full-hookups and nice sized shaded lots for seasonal camping.

Many thanks in advance for your comments!

The only one I know of which fits those criteria is Stone Mountain Heights, which is just east of Stone Mountain Park on Stone Mountain Highway (Highway 78). Here is the link:

Stone Mountain Heights Mobile Home Park, Inc.

Please send me a PM if you'd like to know more. There are folks from Florida who spend the summer in Atlanta, some full-timers, as well as those en route and on holiday. The park has RVs and mobile homes, large lots, nice trees, and a pool.

I have stayed at Stone Mountain while working in Atlanta. The wife and kids could walk to the rest of the park and water slides. It was very nice except for the ants I picked up. Bring some bug spray for around your jacks. I would stay there again.

We thoroughly enjoyed the Army Corp campground on West Point Lake. That is about 1 1/2 hours South of ATL on 85.

North of ATL in Helen, GA is the Georgia WBCCI campground "Top of Georgia" by road that puts you a couple of hours North of the city.

Do your plans require frequent access to ATL or do you simply wish to be in the general area?

Fort Yargo is very close to 316 which runs into 85. Fort Yargo is in Winder georgia. We have stayed there before and really enjoyed it. Many people in Winder work in Atlanta. The drive is not bad and express way.

Here is the site. Georgia State Parks - Fort Yargo State Park

We loved the Top of Ga, and really miss it. We lived in Cumming , Ga right off ex 13 on 400 north and there was a year round park there called Twin Lakes. We never stayed there but it was usually pretty full. Sawnee at Lake Lanier is a nice Corp park but only is open thru the summer season.

We recently stayed at Victoria Campground at Altoona Lake. The camp was excellent and it is ran by the Army Corp of Engineers so us older folks get half price parking with a card. Thirty five miles north of Atlanta just off Int. 75. I certianly will try to return there if traveling in that direction.

We really love Clark Creek North on Alatoona, very small but all sites are on the water.

I don't know how strict the OP was with the statement above but many of the suggestions don't have sewer hookups. I'm okay with that but the OP also mentioned "seasonal camping" - that may mean he/she wants to leave their rig at the campground for extended periods. I think you may be able to do that at Top of Georgia and some of the others (but not all).

Continuing on the slightly off-topic aspect of this thread... has anyone been to the newest Georgia State Park - Chattahoochee Bend?
