Goin' to the Mothership!

I have to go to a conference next week in Cincinnati. Since thats only ~100 miles or so to JC, I thought I'd take the opportunity to rent a car, and take a drive up to see the Mothership. ("who knows" when I'll ever be in the area, again, so I figure I should grab the chance while I've got it.).

So, anything I should do/see/go while I'm there, that I might otherwise miss? How long does the tour take? all I know is that they gather in the lobby at 2:00 on weekdays...

You should also visit the Henschen plant, which is about 2 minutes away from Airstream.

Go east from Airstream to the stop light, turn left and they are about 1/2 mile away, on the right hand side.

Have fun. Say "Hi" to Don Ambose, for me.

Hey Chuck
The Tour of the Airstream plant actually takes about 1 1/2 hrs. Don Ambrose gives the tour which Andy already mentioned. Don is a retired employee that worked there for 50+ yrs and is still there. Don will give ya the pre-tour speech and show ya some peices that the trailer are built with and explain what U will see. Total time about 2 hrs. according to my Wife. My wife and I have been on the tour twice and will must likely go again when the oppurintity arises. You being an owner will better appreciate how your trailer is built. Everyone thats an owner should go.
It would be great if you could visit Henshen axle also but unfortunatley they no longer give tours. I ask Andy ,I thought it would be nice if we could see how our new axles were built.
Depending on how much time U have Chuck there is the Neil Armstrong Muesum and you bascially have to pass the National Muesum of the UNITED STATES AIR FORCE. Both are worth seeing.

While in Cincy get a Skyline 5 way Chili, Graters Mint Chocolate Chip Ice Cream, and top it off with a draft Guinness at Arnolds Irish Bar.

If you are into cultural stuff, the Taft Art Museum and the Cincinnati Art Museum in Mt Adams have pretty thoughtful collections.

As always - accept no substitutes...

it all sounds good....'cept I have no idea where any of it is! (except for AS in JC. that, I already looked up.)

I'll be staying near something called "fountain square".

M: I'll keep an eye out for your folks...I'll be there on Wednesday, so I won't see them unless they're delayed.

Ask your concierge – most are within walking distance of Fountain Square.
Also - the Westin Hotel On Fountain Square has a really nice gallery.

bicycle museum

And if you have more time on your hands, there is the wonderful bicycle museum that is in New Bremen. Just a little ways away from AS. We loved the tour. New Bremen is a wonderful little town!
You will love JC and the "store". Make sure to hide most of your credit cards before you go there.

Another "mothership' Visitor

We are going to JC for the tour later this week with our new International CCD. Is there a good place to stay overnight in the JC area?

I don't know about any campgrounds in the area, but you can stay right at the factory. they have their own "campground"...full hookups, and everything....cheap. really cheap if you're there for service!

Be sure to get ice cream at Aglamesis, on Oakley Square. Much better than Grater's. Been there since 1908.

Don't miss the Kitchenaid Experience in Greenville. A nice stop on your way north to the Mothership.

The JC folks are really nice people. They expect you to stay in your own trailer and have a really nice full hook up campground called the Terraport. They come really early to get your rig to do the work on it. There is a nice store and waiting area inside the visitor's center/headquarters there. If you have extensive work you can find places to see and go while they work. You will have the use of your tow vehicle because they pick up your rig with a tractor.
If you are looking for camp grounds in the area there are nice ones nearby. Our favorite in Grand Lake St. Mary's. Loramie and Indian Lake are nearby as well.
Whatcha' having done?

Keep on with the suggestions!

'nother Airstreamer going to be in striking range of The Mothership! Just got word today, my next jobsite is in Circleville, OH. Puts me within a couple of hours drive of Jackson Center and it looks like a whole bunch of other neat stuff, like the bicycle museum AND the KitchenAid Experience. I might just not ever come home

From fountain square, you can take a cab to the art museum or walk a few blocks to the Taft art museum. JC is approx 2 hrs straight north up I-75. for one of the best lunchs in town try the bistro at the Art museum or Izzy's deli.

I'm heading out tomorrow afternoon for a Monday appointment. Getting the front window leaks fixed and having a MaxxAir vent installed (I have the vent with me).

Had a great trip to Jackson Center. Met a lot of wonderful owners and employees. The factory really takes care of you.

On the tour our guide mentioned that they had just acquired the first unit produced at Jackson Center a 1958 Serial number 0 0001.
