factory visit
We are going to the airstream factory next month. Do they have a campground on site and do you have to make reservations to tour the factory ?

The Terraport is available as space allows. You can call them to make sure they can accomodate you.

Yes, Terry is right, they have a full hookup campground. They use it for many things. When I got there, it was after hours. The security guard let me park in the parking lot, which also had an electric hookup as the campground was full when I arrived. In the morning, they cleared out a space for me and I stayed there about 2-3 days while I had work done on my Safari. I think they even have free wireless Internet access now from what I've heard.

Question? What's the condition of the camp area? When we used it several years ago it showed a lot of neglect.

When I was there about a year and a half ago, they had just repaved most of the campground. I found it to be clean and comfortable, particularly for the price, you can't really beat it...free, if you are having work done there.
If yer just passing through I seem to recall something like $10/night...for full hookups, still a great deal and you get to see the factory and other sites around the property.
You have to know up front though that this is a manufacturing facility. Work starts early and you won't be able to sleep in.

Boy, that's the truth. If you have an 8 am service time, the nice guy on the tractor shows up just after 7.
I hope you enjoy your visit. I make a point to stop in whenever I possibly can.

terra port
The Terra port is in good shape. We were there in the fall. I am sure that at $10/night it fills up fast. There are several really nice state parks in the area. We spent a weekend at Grand Lake St. Mary and it was a really clean nice park.

Electric, water, wi-fi and free coffee during the day.
All very clean, neat, level and quiet. Some trees surrounding 3 paved & pea stone sections, each in a fan shaped circle of probably 5 spots. If you are there for service, the spot is free for one day before work, the days of work and one day after. $10 for others.
Production starts at 6 AM, employees roll in early but park far away from these spots. Daily free tour late afternoon around 2:30, couple cool looking original old trailers on display out front including the Gold Wally Byam.
Very small town, one grocery with a deli and fried chicken, one pizza place with ice cream and one oldtime hardware store that you should see if you are killing time, maybe a restaurant or two neaby. Lot's of big beautiful farms, spotty cell service.
All in all a good take if you're in the area and have Streamin' in your blood.

I stayed there last summer one night when I dropped my Safari off for body work (don't ask) and one night when I picked it up. The Terra Port looked like it had just been rehabbed. The asphalt had recently been resurfaced and the pebble area looked like it had fresh stones. There was little in the way of shade, though, but the cable worked and that was OK for after the sun went down and folks went in and stopped socializing and discussing the issues they had with their units.
Be warned. If you leave your Airstream with them and come back to pick it up, MAKE SURE YOU HAVE AN EXTRA DOOR KEY, THEY WILL LOCK YOUR SET IN THE TRAILER! I couldn't get in mine on Sunday afternoon when I returned to pick it up.

If you or any kids you happen to be travelling with need to cool off Jackson Center has a decent, clean public pool. We enjoyed it!
edit: ps I wouldn't go visit JC just for the pool, but it did come in handy.

JC Sunday arrival
We plan on arriving at JC Sunday for a Monday appt. Will we be able to get into the "campground"?
If not, and our appointment is for Monday, but no exact time was mentioned, would an 11am arrival be ok?
Questions that I have thought of when JC is closed. I know what they say about prior planning, but total prior planning didn't happen.
This having fun is wearing me out!

Yes, you can get into the campground. They do not have it gated. You can park yourself and check in with the office early on Mon. The deal will be whether there are spaces available. At this time of year I am sure they have lots of business. And AS campers are welcome to use the campground as they are passing through the area without an appt. @$10 a night. They often use their parking lot next to the front office as overflow for parking if you don't need the electricity etc.
We have stayed at Grand Lake St. Mary's SP which is not too far away. It is a beautiful place with great parking spots and clean restrooms and showers.

hi pat
as of today there are about 18-20 open spaces....
with about 10 spaces occupied.
there are 3 pods with about 8 spaces each in a wagon wheel design.
the most northern pod is vacant but that could change tomorrow.
ALL sites are back in but easy without trees to kiss.
all utilities are at the 'hub' of the wheel and the trailers are the spokes...
full hook ups sans cable.
tasty water!
old style wally arrangement and i like it.
ALL service appts are first/come first serve, be in line and check in before 7am...
show up at 11am monday and depending on the repairs it could be 7am on tuesday....
so come on sunday and get up early on monday.
we can explain all of this sunday when you arrive.
just stop by and say hello, as i'm in the most southern pod.
look for the rubber chicken.
cheers

Airstream Factory
The store inside was being 'restrored' last week.
Still a few items you could buy.
A cool 'Airstream' fold up bike, did not see a price.
Jackson Center has an old movie house that is still open and showing current movies.
Tours are at 2pm each day.

Klattu, when did you take your photos? They had the "Everglades Unit" in the shop last August when I was there and it was gutted at that time. Also, the Burgundy F-250 with the Safari Front Bedroom was there at that time, too.
They had been there for about five weeks, give or take, the first week of August having all kinds of large and small things done. It was a mother and her two daughters plus two or three Dachshunds.
