Booking Florida keys

It seems like there is zero availability in November, December & January. Any other options, boondocking etc?

Monroe County (all of the Keys) prohibits boondocking, even with permission of a property owner. People occasionally get away with it but seldom for more than an overnight.

Basically, unless you are ridiculously lucky and stumble across a cancellation in one of the State Parks, you just have to pony up the big bucks to stay in a commercial campground.

Every year I go through the reservation routine — 11 months to the day before I would like to camp in the keys I get up early, get online with the reservations website and try to hit the “reserve” button at exactly 0800. Successful about 10% of the time…

Everybody wants to be there and I can’t blame them.

Very nice campground. But I think it actually has 2 different, unrelated booking sites. Fortunately, we don’t care much for the keys we prefer the other, almost impossible to book Florida Stated parks

Thanks for the feedback, glad to hear I’m not missing something or feel like I missed out. With a family of four, I struggle with planning three months in advance, I can’t imagine 11. I ended up booking Boyd’s Key West for 6 nights, and only need to part with one kidney to cover the cost. During the six nights, we will attempt to snag some cancelations that come available last minute. We had luck doing this while visiting Carlsbad beach, CA last April. Had to move about 4 times though beggars can’t be choosers…I saw the whole experience as a big win!

We stayed at Boyd’s in 2020 for 10 days. My wife just happened to called them about a month before we were leaving on our trip and they just had a cancellation that we got. Calling in the mornings daily is my suggestion in order to get a spot that was cancelled. Trying to book a year out is pretty useless in my experience.
