'74 Silver Streak Continental- Rocket Owner

Hi all!

I've been pouring over the forum the last few weeks in anticipation of picking up our 74' Silver Streak. She's in average condition- and after getting her home and beginning investigation- under the obscene wallpaper job I found water damage on paneling and subfloor.

I think I have found that most the leaking comes from the windows - all the weather stripping (not sure what it's called) between windows is dry and pulling out and there are water trails from the corners to wet areas. (I washed her and then we had a mega storm, go figure. But it was a good test.)

I found a few areas of rot in front of trailer and by door and am comtemplating whether a replacement floor is needed or just another sub floor placed on top.

I want to do it right... how does one determine how much rot warrants replacement? This hole is about 2 x 2.

Also what is the channel around base called? C channel?

I'm posting a pic because I think it needs to be replaced because it's split the L brackets are broken off and shell is detached from the channel in front. Let me know what you experienced restorers think.

Where do I get this at?

If I replace this I may as well do subfloor.

Welcome to the forums Chell!

I'm not sure that there are too many vintage trailers out there without some sort of floor rot... So, don't despair, there are lots of folks on here with experience, ideas and good advice.

Windows and seams all need resealing, it's where the water comes in and it's an ongoing process. You will need to do that real soon.

We had more floor rot than you do, and we just replaced our bad section not the part that was still good. Don't overdo the project - your goal is to be out there camping!

I've attached a few photos of our replacement, we just made sure to start/stop each piece of wood on a support. Make sure to use a marine grade type of wood the same thickness you have now (most common 1/2" or 3/4") and seal all the edges of the wood. We don't have a "c" channel like yours, but I don't know why you just couldn't slide the new piece under your current channel and refasten it... How far does the damage extend? I bet some others will chime in and be sure to do a search for floor fix or floor replacement. There are tons of folks who have done that.

Good Luck!

Tina
