1988 32' Excella Nameplate

Hi,

I'm brand SPANKING new to Airstreams and "Airstreaming", my wife and I just purchased an '88 32' Excella at an auction......I know it's risky but the price was amazing. The trailer was used by the Canadian DND as a mobile recruiting office so I'm starting from scratch, there is essentially nothing in it! It will be a big task but we/I will pick at it until we are satisfied, should be done before I retire in 27 years

My first line of business is to find a replacement nameplate. the original is gone and based on the mark remaining it looks like script/handwriting. This is different than all the forums and websites I have been looking at. Would anyone know were I could pick up an original or aftermarket replacement??

P.S. What the heck does the "check digit" mean or represent???? Mine is a 9.

first welcome to the forums!

seems the pix of that unit were up recently here....

anyway, check with the factory, more correctly the service center/store...

there is a SLIM chance they've got some excella script lettering left....

http://www.airforums.com/forums/413870-post4.html

ZOOM the pix, the cast aluminum lettering is on the table...
cheers

Unhappy Well that didn't work :-(

Well Airstream is officially out of script nameplates....the service center suggested that we buy a plate that covers up the existing mark.

Anyone have two extra name plates?? preferrably script, but a matching set would be great. Just a shot in the dark.....

Rob and Julie,
Try Steve at P&S Trailer Services. They may have some laying around or know where you could get some. Or try Out-Of-Doors-Mart, maybe they have some ins their used Airstream parts sections.
Good Luck,
Carl

The script Airstream nameplates were original equipment starting in 1985 thru at least 1989, maybe longer. They were definitely onto another style by 1994. Over all this is a fairly short span.

The good news is that I have see these nameplates on eBay before, so a little patience should pay off if you watch eBay. There are also some RV/trailer scrap yards around. I'll bet with a little searching you can find one that has a scrapped (or rolled) Airstream that you can get a nameplate off of. Wish I could remember the names and locations of such yards, but it's been too long. They have been posted on AirForums many times, so a search might turn up some names and phone numbers. Some of them might remove the nameplate and wail it to you (for a price).
