Larry made a great turkey/bacon sandwich, which I enjoyed for lunch. With this energy boost, I was ready to try out a new kite. This Patriotic Parafoil Kite comes in a compact and lightweight bag and is easy & fun to fly. It looks great in the blue sky along with the American Flag and both look great above the Airstream…

Which got me thinking about our Vets as Pearl Harbor Day (December 7th) approaches…
My Dad was a Pearl Harbor Survivor…

This one’s for you, Dad.

Larry pre-made Chinese pork dumplings (a form of Dim Sum) at home and steamed them on the Brinkmann Propane Gas Burner.

For dessert he made Indian (pumpkin) pudding topped with whipped cream.

Now for the trailer improvements, new items, etc.

On previous outings when the large, patio awning was deployed, we noticed that the screen door top corner scraped on it when opening or closing the door. So Larry obtained 3/8-inch diameter vinyl tubing from the plumbing section of Home Depot, split the tubing lengthwise and applied it to the top corner of the screen door.

Larry made convenient and lightweight holders for those greasy Equal-i-zer spring (sway) bars. From Home Depot he obtained a set of two 48-inch ABS black pipes, 2&3/8-inch wide end caps and tension plugs. He used ABS glue to attach the end caps. Now the bars are easy to handle, stay off the ground and slide into the back of the truck without getting grease on everything.

To celebrate our return to the desert (see previous page), we obtained a colorful windsock from our local flag dealer:
Flagship Flags (http://www.flagdist.com/frrtop.htm)

This windsock features the iconic image of the Kokopelli, the Humpback Flute Player, which is part of the Southwestern Native American folklore, and perhaps a symbol of fertility and prosperity. The Kokopelli is also seen as the embodiment of the contact point between the spiritual and material world. At our campsite, Kokopelli looked happy and right at home dancing in the wind in front of Ghost Mountain.

For more information see: http://www.desertusa.com/mag00/apr/stories/trail_kok.html
And: http://www.desertusa.com/mag04/jun/flu.html
And: the many Kokopelli images found by Google.com

And finally… two more new items… a new T-shirt, "Living the Airstream Life"
See: http://airstreamlife.myshopify.com/products/living-the-airstream-life-t-shirt

And a silvery new banner for the trailer made by Larry.

So whether it be Silver Bells or SilverGate…
It’s Holiday Time… in the Desert!

Holiday Cheers!

Your adventures

Sounds like you had a great time, and that Larry is quite the cook!

I though you might like this blanket I ordered for my yet to arrive Safari. I am seeing your posts and getting inspired to decorate my SilverLining (I have named it already) which should arrive in about 3 weeks.

African Safari Images Blanket/Throw

The SilverLining will be in the Midnight Sun, like yours, so I ordered this blanket to put on the bed. I have dogs also, (as you can see) and prefer to cover the bed and sofa with something easily washable.

In keeping with the Safari theme, I found animal print bath towels on sale at TJ Max, and also animal print rugs from Bed Bath and Beyond.

Always enjoy reading about your adventures.

You've done it once again!

Well, you've done it once again, SilverGate and Larry...entertained, informed and shared your latest outing...Great pictures of the Vallecito area, and thanks for doing all that extra climbing for those special pictures. (Don't do it without your water bottle next time!!) Look like you had good times, good food, and lots of the kind of quiet that can only be found in the desert.

Congrats of the Safari's 1-year anniversary...what a nice thing to add to the list of things to be thankful for at Thanksgiving...

Hey! We were just at Blair Valley last week -- and have scratches along the Safari's sides to prove it

You're right on about the quite there, too: it's something you can feel. This was our first visit to the area, and I had the opportunity to try my hand at photographing the Comet 17P/Holmes -- which turned out terrible. But my buddy Mike was there with us and captured it nicely.

We'll be back -- regularly. Give us a buzz next time you plan going again!

Cheers,
-jd.

Destination: Anza-Borrego Desert State Park which is the largest state park in California with five-hundred miles of dirt roads, 12 wilderness areas and miles of hiking trails. We also like its usually clear starry nights, beautiful landscape, and its interesting plants and animals.

For more information see:
http://www.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=638
http://www.theabf.org/

We arrived for three nights of camping at Palm Canyon Campground with full hook-ups and wonderfully hot showers.
http://www.socalcamping.com/000Anza/palmcanyon.html

And flew our new Earth flag: http://www.earthflag.net/

We joined the Luhrs’ who had already set up a desert routine here the week before:
http://tour.airstreamlife.com/wordpress/?p=1034

But their full-timing routine will end (at least for now) with this camp site.

Later that evening, Lisa, Kelly, and son Austin arrived with their Bambi.

The next morning the sun lit up our shining Airstreams as we all greeted each other.
