Foam in plastic bags

Simple and perhaps dumb question. Noticed the foam in our 2022 GT bench cushions are wrapped in light plastic. Should this be removed?

That's a trick that upholstery shops use to make it easier to slide the foam into the covers. I did that when I reupholstered the sofa in my 1994 Excella. Even with the plastic a few were too snug so I used a vacuum to shrink them inside the bags. Once I got things in place I removed the plastic bags, but it was not easy to do and I almost didn't get it done.

When I took apart the original upholstery there was still remnants of the factory's plastic, which I assume they used for the same purpose. Most of it had been removed at the factory though.

Should you remove the plastic on yours? Guess it depends - if you have upholstery which is porous you might want to leave it on. Especially if you have kids who might spill something, as it will keep the liquids from penetrating the foam. But, having the foam wrapped in plastic, in my opinion, makes the cushion less comfortable to sit on since it will hold air when you sit down and because it will make the cushion feel sticky if it's humid outside.

Hopefully others will join in who have more specific experience to newer models.

Ok. Thanks. I actually find the foam to be soft. I suppose removing the bags will make them even softer as air will escape even faster. Thanks again for the feedback.
