boondocking fill-up
So how do people put water in their holding tank when boondocking?
This will be my first boondocking trip with a Coach as opposed to a Tear-drop.
I'm trying to imagine how you put H2O in the trailer short of pouring it in?
I'm thinking of a stand alone pump, with a tube to go in the water vessel and another tube going to the holding tank.
Does anyone use this method?
Do you have a pump brand you recommend?
Thanks,
MK

I use a 12v pump designed for RVs with appropriate fittings and wiring but many use a transfer pump. Harbor freight sells them as does Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B085DZB7RC...ZJ5VYKWESNMQZ5
Ryobi (Home Depot) makes one that’s part of their rechargeable battery tool series.

Hi
Pouring it is messy, especially with a large container. Siphon does work but it can be tricky. Go for the pump.
The flip side of this is that what goes into the fresh water ultimately shows up in the black and gray tanks. Those need to be properly dumped at a dump station. Once you have rumbled off to dump the tanks, there usually is a place you also can fill the fresh water along the route somewhere.

I use a folding funnel. Works fine, simple stores flat. Easily found on Amazon

What Dale said. I mounted the HF water pump in the Fridge access area and tied into the fridge 12Volt line with a switch. I made a loop of hose about 2'long that I connect to each side of the pump to keep clean inside while traveling. When pumping, I remove the hose from the input side of the pump and place the end of the hose in the fresh water fill hole (measure and cut your hose based on that length). I keep a 5' hose in the trailer clean that connects to the input side of the pump for use and the other end goes into a 5 gal jerry can. I pump 5 gal at a time. I have a 60 gal water bladder for serious boondocking but have not yet used it. I always use my filter when filling either the freshwater tank or the jerry can and with city water connection. When sanitizing the system each year, along with bleach solution in the freshwater tank, I put some in the Jerry can and pump through all hoses and external pump as well as internal systems. - Brad

I haven’t had to refill while boondocking. It’s the emptying that’s more of an issue…

I bring along a couple of these. The spout is long, relatively narrow and has some flexibility so it makes it a little easier to get it into the tank opening, and to stay there while you're pouring. Despite being narrow it's vented so it pours fairly quickly.

I have a fellow camper that carries a DESIGNATED Blue boy that he carries in the back of his truck. This makes it easier to transfer plus he has a DC transfer pump. I think the BB is a 20 gal.
He gets a lot of "lookers"

If the water source is far, I use a 60 gallon bladder in the bed of the truck and a 12 volt harbor freight transfer pump. If there is a spigot close to our spot, I just use a 5 gallon can and keep topping the tank off every now and then. The 5 gallon can is quick and I get some exercise as a bonus.

Hi
If the water source is close, that's why I carry a couple hundred feet of hose
You very much will *not* get much flow out of that length of hose. It's still faster than shuttling buckets. We mainly carry the hoses for that odd campground laid out by somebody from another planet ....

Yes 200' of Goal Z hose takes up less space than 50' of blue & white.

Jerry cans and a cassette toilet. Add in a propane fridge and you’re ready to boondock. Best camping there is.

I just pour it in using one of these https://smartbottleinc.com/product/5-3-gallon/. No need to use a funnel and there's no risk of bumping into the AS and scratching it.
I usually only fill it about halfway at a time so that it's not too heavy.

Spare pump
We use a spare 12V pump which we would carry anyway.
Since the photo I have mounted it to the side panel along with the switch and have longer more flexible hoses.
On our last trip where we boondocked for about 10 days (the site conveniently had a connection to a good septic system but no water) we picked up 6 exchange bottles in a nearby town. Two nearby ranchers we got to know both offered us water anytime we needed to refill so it worked out great.
