Question Whats the damage ?

Hello experts,

I saw this Excell on eBay and wondered what the repairs might cost on this?

What is fair value for something like this.

Being very very handy, could i do the repairs my myself.

Thank you for all your expertise in advance.

Looking at the pictures I would say you are in for a minimum of 3 curved segments and part or all of the upper side sheet. The upper side sheet replacement will require removal of the awning too. If you want to buy and use as is, fine, but if you are looking for a good looking unit I would pass. They are out there in many different conditions. You have to decide if you can live with the condition of this unit.

BTW I bet it has a branded title, damage this severe normally leads to a totaled unit.

Also from the pictures I would guess the front main rib is damaged. Again, not an impossible repair but a lot of work. Problem #1 would be how it would ship, it is one continuous piece and needs to be for the integrity of the trailer.

yikes

Having just had two segments replaced for $2400, I bet the repairs on this including the awning to be over $10,000 if done at the factory. How can anybody have damage like that and not have the proper insurance to have it repaired? Maybe they took the insurance money and pocketed it. If somebody is very handy and has lots of time, this could be a nice fixer upper. The cost for a segment is about $250, the balance we paid was labor.

Those corner segments will cost more like $450 - $600 each. And it looks like not less than four segments, plus a rib or two, some windows, and maybe the door frame, if not the door itself. There has got to be significant interior damage as well.

Mark,
If anything, you're more on the conservative side, cost wise~!
I know if this unit was mine..I'd insist that the insurance company pay for the complete replacement of that "entire front section" as a single piece~ For the sake of saving man-power cost, and to insure proper integrity of the Airstream~The awning, as well as the door, will need to be replace also.
artlink,
Not to take anything away from you or your abilities but..IMHO:
This unit, more than likely, should be repaired at the factory~

footnote:
About three years ago, while visiting at the factory, I saw a unit there in for repairs much worse than this one..The estimate bill was for 30K~!
This was a unit that was literally brand new trailer. While out on a road trip, the family had stopped at a rest area to have lunch. Sitting at a picnic table under the shaded tree, looking back at their unit...They watch in horror as this semi-came roaring into the entrance and, rolled on it's side, slamming into and crushing the entire length of the curb side of their trailer~!~Ruined picnic~! (Somewhere I have the pictures of that damaged unit)
Take that amount of damage to (plus three years ago) equates repair cost of 30K$
ciao~
