Hey there,
I have a 1960 tradewind that has a few tin patches on the exterior that I would like to replace with some of the interior skin that I have left over. My question is whether or not this is the same type of material i.e. will it weather the same, polish the same, is it as strong? What about a whole panel? What do you think should I spring for the new stuff or save this metal from the scrap yard.
As far as I know interior and exterior skins were all 2024 T3 Alclad .032 so if the left overs fit then you should be good to go. If there are any rivet holes you don't want maybe Olympic them or fill them with solid rivets. For a larger area I would just get new material, it won't have been abraded/ etched to hold paint.
