Reverse cove molding- found it!

For those who are looking for this, contact Ed Nagle in parts at: US Adventure RV in Davenport, Iowa (563) 468-4678 (they are an Airstream dealer). He can get it in four colors and I think it is .20/foot plus shipping. All this time looking and I could find it locally with the help of an excellent parts guy who will always take the time to help you.

I'll second that!

I too have had exceptional service and help from Ed Nagle! He is great to deal with and always finds the time to just chat about my vintage A/S. We are lucky to have this helpful parts manager at a great A/S dealer. Happy Trails, Ed

What is reverse cove moulding. Wouldn't a reverse cove be 1/4 round with a bead? Could you post a picture or sketch?

I'll try to do that when I get a chance. Best explanation is it is the vinyl stuff that hides any gap between the wall and cabinet.

To me piping is a cord with vinyl sewed around it ,used a lot in auto upholstry and furniture but it would work just as well for a gap filler between the cabinets and look quite nice. This stuff is actually an extrusion.

What are the colors and is it plastic or aluminum? Do you know the size (width across the cove)?

I bought some from OutWater.com, but they only had white, and paint doesn't want to stay attached.

Found some aluminum stuff locally, but the width across the cove is too small and the tag (or mounting part) is at a 90 degree angle, as it is made to work with formica.

I think the product being explained is also referred to as "gimp" or "welt" or "welting".

Any additional info on the colors &/or sizes it's available in from this source?

Shari

reverse cove mouldings

Shari and all, I went to U.S. AdventureRV today and this is what I found out. John (63air) was correct. This A/S dealer does have access to this moulding thru a Winnabago catalog. He had some of it in stock that he had ordered to see if it would work in a customers vintage trailer. It is plastic and sells for $.99 cents per foot. The catalog has a minimum order $ amount (probably around $ 25.00) But don't quote me on that amount check with Ed Nagle to make sure at 800-468-4678. The colors available are: Ivory, Champagne, Bright White, Dark Gray, and Light Gray. They are currently out of stock on the Champagne and Light Gray. Any Winnabago parts dealer ought to be able to order it for you, or you can give Ed a call. They told me in regards to the minimum order charge they may be able to get around that if your order is shipped to Ed and then it could be picked up in Davenport, Ia. or shipped to your location rather than a direct ship from Winnabago. It looks to be a good product and may be a good source as a replacement item for hard to find aluminum extrusions where walls and cabinets meet the interior skins. As we all know from past experience the only other way to get these pieces in aluminum is to find a trailer in a parts/salvage yard and pay a premium price and shipping. Hope this information helps you folks out! Happy Trails, Ed

Extrusion

I suspect we are talking about several diffrent products as 63Air stated earlier:

Airstream has used an extrusion for many years. The cove is 3/8th to 1/2 inch wide. If you look at it from the end, it looks sort of like a "T". You can also find this product at mobile home supply outlets.

Welt is as described, a vinyl covered rope with the vinyl overlapped and sewn. It is normally about 1/4 to 1/2 inch wide.

A third product is fender welt used in the automobile restoration and normally comes in chorme or black. Good tough stuff.
