What is this?

Hi, can someone tell me what this part is? I pulled it from the front of the 72 Sovereign where the TV junction is.

It is a resetting circuit breaker, used instead of a fuse.

Ah... Thanks, Bill. Is this a possible reason why my TV isn't charging the Airstream battery, if this is bad?

I don't know how fast you could charge you battery's from the TV. The wire connecting the TV and trailer is fairly small. Have you checked to see if you are getting a charge from the TV?

The wiring is all patched together on this one. We got it a couple months ago and I'm just now trying to figure out and trace out all the wiring. The only time the battery gets charged is when I'm connected to shore power. It is not getting charged when we drive down the road. There are two prongs on the 7 pin connector that supply 12 volts. I'm guessing one is for powering the AS while connected to TV and the other is for charging the AS battery. But after a couple days without shore power, but driving, we lose 12v power when disconnected from TV... I have to stay connected to the TV at that point if we want 12v power.

Hopefully that makes sense.

Sorry, forgot to mention I confirmed those two 12v pins with a voltage meter.

The plug connecting the tow vehicle to the trailer has seven pins. Left turn-stop, right turn-stop, running lights, back up lights, brake controller, ground and power. If the trailer batteries do not charge the power pin is not working, which is where the circuit breaker was probably connected.. Airstream did not use the current standard connection in the past. You need to check each wire in the trailer to insure what each wire does. If a prior owner changed it to the current standard you are OK.

Have fun, the joys of vintage trailer ownership.

Try disconnecting the positive lead from your battery. They hook up to your TV. If you 12 vlt lights work then you are getting power from your TV. Next take your multi meter and check to seen if your getting power fed back to the disconnected positive battery terminal. If you are it should be charging the battery. Keep in mind the charge rate is slow when it's coming from the TV. Let us know how it works out.

I didn't have time to do the battery disconnect test before leaving on our weekender. However, I replaced that breaker with a new one and now the TV is charging the AS battery. So... I guess that was it. Thanks for the help though!
