tear drop marker lights

I've searched the internet high and low and can't seem to find the correct or even close to the tear drop marker lights I need. Does anyone know where I can get the "original" size marker lights for a 1954. I prefer not to drill any more new holes. Thanks a bunch.

Hi there and welcome to the forums. If it's out there, someone here knows where.

Vintage trailer supply sells a teardrop light that matches the ones on our '61 Bambi. I don't know if they are the same as the Traveller. These use an aluminium base instead of steel, so no rust.
You can see then here. Only $5.

A version with a backplate of unidentified metal is available on line here. About $3.

If you're feeling a bit spendy you can check out Tear Drop Parts. They have a version with a billet base, but I'm not sure if it's a drop in replacement. You can see them here, it's almost half way down a very long page. About $30.

If the base is still good, but the lens is missing or faded then you can get replacement lenses for about a buck here.

Hope this helps.

I'd love to see some pictures of your Traveller, and I'm sure I'm not alone. If there's one thing this crowd likes, it's pictures. Lots of them.

Cheers,
Brian

I just returned home from FLA with my new 55 FC! (Yes...I love it!) I too, need to find some replacement lenses for my tear drop marker lights. None of the ones in the above post by Brian, will work. Mine are in an aluminum base and the actual plastic measures 6 1/4" X 3 3/16". Anyone know where to get a replacement? I can't find any manufacture markings on either the lenses themselves or the holders. HELP if you can, please. Thanks!

Becky,

Are you after the side marker lights or the tail/stop lights?

I got a set from Vintage Trailer Supply. They screwed right in the same holes the old lights came out of. I think our 63 has the same teardrop marker lights as your 54.

Bill,

I especially need the side marker lights. The tail/stop lights are okay. One was broken and I super-glued it back together, to get it home. I will try to polish them and use them as they are original. But, the side marker lights are TOAST! Any suggestions??? Thanks!

teardrops from Vintage Trailer Supply: Trimming off the ears?

Sorry to restart this thread, but I've been looking at (and disliking) the replacement lights that are currently on our 67 rig. (Why they're on the rig is a different story, but I don't want to raise my blood pressure this early in the morning.) Here's what it's got now (pic from Andy's Inland site):

Ok, so what it used to have was teardrops. And the only reasonably priced replacements I can find are like the pic below (pic from Vintage Trailer Supply):

Well, so these look ok, but I'm not too keen on those three big ears around the perimeter. And not too wild about having to drill more holes in the rig, either.

So has anybody purchased these, trimmed off the ears, and drilled holes inside to match the original holes in the rig?

The result would presumably look somewhat like the attached image ...

Lynn

Not done it, but I can't see why it wouldn't work...as long as the original holes are under the plate.

That looks perfect, but at 25 bucks a pop plus shipping, that would make, er, ah, 300 buckeroos plus shipping!

Methinks maybe I should order one from Vintage to see if I can alter it to fit.

Yeah, yeah, I'm a cheapo, I admit it.

Actually, I just wrote to Vintage. From the measurements on the cheaper teardrops and the measurements of the current lights (3" apart on center, horizontal plane), it looks like the new-holes plan might just work. But decided I'd just write to find out ...

Hey, now that I'm all fired up to see if I can't make up some teardrop lights, I have a follow-up question: What about the row of three lights at the front and back of the rig? One problem is that I just can't recall the configuration of these lights from years ago. Were they teardrops at all? Does somebody have a pic of the front/rear of a 60's rig with original marker lights?

Lynn,

The lights look rectangular in this picture: 67Caravel

I think - looking at the Vintage Airstream site - that Bill is correct. It looks like 64 was the last year for the teardrop markers......

Lynn, All the lights on my 1967 Safari are the type you found on the Inland parts page with the exception that the base for the original is aluminum not plastic. None of them are the teardrop style. Happy Trails, Ed

Wow, really? When we took ours to the blood-pressure-raising shop for work, the fellow there removed our originals ("those old things") and replaced them with the ones that Andy stocks. Do you know if the ones on your rig are original?

Ok, I just got my wife in here to my computer and asked her what lights were on our rig originally. (Her memory is a bunch better than mine!) Here's what she identified (dome only, from Vintage site), though she said it was "smooth" and "without ridges":

Humm. No teardrops after all!

oops.
Since you are going with the square clearance lights now, how about going LED? I put them on our Argosy, they looked original, were brighter, had a lower amp draw (better for the tow vehicle), and last for decades. And they are inexpensive.
