I have the 50 amp version of this one; https://www.amazon.com/PROGRESSIVE-I...NsaWNrPXRydWU=

I know a lot of people that have and use this 30 amp unit. I've heard no complaints.

I have a Progressive Industries 50 amp. Previous the 30 amp from Progressive Industries.

I think most of the people on here would recommend them. Customer service is also good.

I have the Progessive Industries 50 amp. It provides all sorts of diagnostic tests on the campground power in addition to being a surge protector. You’re well protected with this device.

Only one downside besides price: if the surge protector trips, you have to replace the entire unit..even if all the other functions work. Very costly.

The reason I know this, is the first time I used mine, I got the Error Code associated with a surge, meaning surge protection was no longer working, but all the other diagnostics were functional and power was flowing through. It was replaced under warranty.

Does that mean that there was a surge and the unit did what was expected? Did the surge damage the unit and that was the reason for it being replaced? Thanks for your reply.

get the Progressive Industries 50 or 30 amp model and mount it inside for permanent use.

that way there is nothing to lose or forget out side.

I have the 30 amp version of this one. It is an electronic management system in addition to a surge protector. The EMS offers so much more protection. I have had several different surge protectors over the years and have this to be the best.

Hi, I have a 30 Amp surge protector and only use it if I'm in, or going to be in, a thunder storm. Maybe five times in 15 years.

Well, since the error code presented immediately on my first use, I believe, as did Progressive Support, that the unit was defective from the get-go. That’s why they replaced it. However, I was told that if the unit absorbs a surge, that’s a one time event and the unit is toast. I always wondered if I could just get a cheap “no frills” surge protector and cascade it with the old Progressive EMS if that would work.

As was mentioned earlier, their support is good. Also this is my 2nd PI EMS. I had the 30 amp unit for my previous trailer. Sold it and got the 50 amp unit when we got a larger trailer with 50 amp electrical.

I will say the unit saved me from air cond damage due to low voltage once. The low voltage was due to a high resistance connection at the pedestal: poor outlet connection. I was able to rectify the situation with a little conductive grease on the plug.

++ on the Progressive Industries EMS

lrlevine117, the one most recommended so far is more than a surge protector; Progressive Industries calls it an EMS, electrical management system. It also protects against under-voltage and mis-wired pedestals.

Ours tripped at a Colorado State Park due to under-voltage which likely saved our Air Conditioner compressor from running hot and eventually burning out.

Here’s the 30A version: https://www.progressiveindustries.net/ems-pt50x

Good luck!

Does anyone use the permanently installed/ hardwired version of an EMS/ surge protector? Pros and cons?

I use the Progressive Industries EMS-PT30X like many others. You can do a search through the forums for write ups on the pros and cons of having the unit hardwired inside your trailer. When I was looking to buy I saw many users complaining of a noise associated with the hard wired version so we went with the PT30X on the power pole. Maybe it's something those users were doing wrong but I didn't feel like taking that chance.

Mine does have a little hum. But when I mounted it I installed rubber washers between unit and panel. It helped reduce noise noticeably.
