Howdy, Sid!
AC 2 install on Wednesday ! Have to cut new hole on roof because existing where fantasticfan is now is too far aft to mount AC.
Wish me luck..and lift up some good vibes.

How did your upgrad go?
I just finished the 30 to 50 amp upgrade, new cable, 50 amp auto transfer switch, one new 20 amp breaker for rear a/c and new outlet(yet to figure out what to use it for) in place of the switch in cabinet over sink. Installed auto switch twice, one side of switch didn't work took it out and rebuilt, spring and contact was out of place, my fault for not testing before install, could have been that way as I purchased new on ebay, a big slam in transit could have dislodged.

Have parts just need holesaw for honkin hole in side of AS.
However, on second thought... I am going to make a bracket to mount the 50AMP in the tray where the umbilical was stored... Hmmmm

Hey Channing,
How did you determine the hole in the rear bedroom was too far aft?
I'm looking forward to the photos, too, of your finished upgrades.

Never mind the question. I see the answer on your install thread! Thanks

Dave. Not installing transfer switch since we don't run generator. I suppose that's what you are asking.

So,
Now, where to mount the receptacle ?
The side has no strength...pushing the plug end into receptacle will flex sidewall... The weight of this big, honking plug and cable will tug at it twisting down. Hhhmmmmm.
I thought of mounting in the "umbilical" tray...not a good choice due to elements....

Though I'm only dealing with a 30A inlet, I have been thinking about putting in some blocking between the inner and outer skin like the recommendation for AC units. Seems like it would stiffen the area up a bit as long as the power inlet's screws bite into the blocking, and the other side of the blocking is attached to the inner skin. I think that'll be enough for the 30A cord, not sure about a 50A one.

When I did this I first drilled a 1/2" hole, sprayed in foam - all I could get in so it was dense. Than drilled the large hole for the receptacle. Stiffened up the whole area, lots easier and worked great.

Now that's a great idea, wish I had thought of that! That could work for other penetrations of the skin to stiffen the area up also.

They make an industrial structural foam, but I don't think it is available in the easy squirt can, two part, fast mix and pour.
