My wife and I recently procured a 1981 Excella and it needs "a bit" of work. Fortunately there is a large community of Airstream enthusiasts we hope to tap into because we are both pretty clueless about what we're doing with this thing. I need a primer on Airstream electrical systems. I couldn't even find where the 12v battery(s) is supposed to go. Can I hook this thing up to my 120v home systems directly to test it out? Any guidance would be much appreciated.
I believe you will have compartments at the front of the trailer for the batteries. On our '81 they were accessed from the outside front.
Yes you can hook up to your home to check the electrical. You will probably need an adapter though since most homes don't have the correct outlets to hook up. Make sure that you don't run anything that takes a large amount of current while doing this though, the normal hookup is a 30 amp 110v connection so you can certainly overload what you have coming from the house.
