1973 Ambassador Wiring problem

Well it seems I have a short to ground on circuit 4. Does anyone have a wiring diagram that would show me what is on circuit 4. I know the wire is brown and most of the lights up by the door are on it but I can't find the short anywhere. I hope it is not in the wall!

thanks

Can you share some details?

Welcome to the forum.

Are you talking about a DC or AC short?

Why do you think it is a short as opposed to something else?

I know it is a DC short because I checked it with my volt meter

kcd,

According to my 73 service manual. Brown, circuit #4 could go to the following----Range Exhaust Fan, Ceiling lights and fans, Flood Light and Step light.

The manual is broken down by length and configuration. Let me know the details and I can be more specific.

Regards

Rick

See if this helps. Begin around post number 360.

http://www.airforums.com/forums/f226...-15132-26.html

I suspect most of the wiring in the 27' and 28' are similar.

My husband can't find the problem at any of the lights. Would it be possible to email me or pm me a copy of the wiring diagram?

The full story of what happened...sitting in the Airstream with my family and a strong smoke smell appears, than smoke actually came out of the lights above the couch. Pretty scary. My husband tests everything with a voltage meter and can tell there is a short. The fuse blew, kinda late if you ask me, since I could see smoke in the air!

Thanks for the replies everyone.

I checked out the full monte thread. Didn't look at all 40 plus pages but at the specific post mentioned. My husband has checked everything listed in post 360 and he can't isolate the problem. I know nothing about wiring, but he thinks the problem may be in the wall.

Because of the type construction of your Airstream, you will find the wires up in the ceiling.

The center ceiling panel is easily removed.

Most always those shorts are caused by a wire the moved and got pinched between a main bow and the ceiling.

Not always, but far more than not, pinched wires can be caused by bad axles.

BTW

From the rear forward-- Range exhaust fan, 12 Volt outlet street side, Step light, Front Ceiling light, Flood light, Front overhead storage locker light left and right sides.

Good Luck

i'd start around the smoke source and work away from the power (fuse) from there.
