Renovating in South Carolina

First Post/Introduction

Hello!

I'm purchasing a 1974 27' Overlander (center bath) next week (already shook hands with the current owner, but paying right before taking delivery). It's in completely original condition and looks amazing! I'm going to be renovating it and using the Airstream for my business, so it'll be a slightly different renovation project from those that I've seen online as I don't have a need for a kitchen, full bathroom, etc.

I'm really excited to get started on the project. The floors don't feel soft, but you can see water damage in two places on the edges (in the front behind the sofa bed and in the back behind the bed), so I'm prepared to have to replace subflooring. My biggest hope is that the frame isn't rusted through. Fingers crossed!

I'm sure I'll be referencing this forum a lot and asking a lot of questions, so thank you in advance to anyone who is willing to share their wisdom.

Hello from Colorado: Sounds like you found a good Overlander. The center bath layout is rather rare, and makes more sense than the rear bath in my view.

I have a 75 Overlander twin, rear bath. I have spent the last two winters renovating this one. It had floor rot as you describe along with rear end separation, rust holes in the frame rails, bad axles, bad plumbing, bad appliances, mold and mildew everywhere. Other than that, it was in good shape. It is in much better shape now. I renovated mine as a travel trailer the whole family can use safely and reliably.

Enjoy your project. There will be lots of surprises along the way.
