Wink Old sailor turning to wheels

Hi All,

I have admired Air Streams for a long time. Unique and aerodynamic and light.

I started out campimg by building a popup trailer that my wife and I pulled behind a R69 US BMW motor cycle. Sold it when children came along and bought a 33 foot sail boat.

We camped in a 194? Mobile Glide Globe Trotter, which we still have and use.

I have worked as a manfacturing engineer and for the last 30 years have owned a architural woodworking company.

Last fall we bought a 1976 Sovereign for not much money. I believe the previous owner went off roading with it as there is not one piece of plastic which is not broken. There is one place where a cabinet side wore a hole throught the plywood floor. Needless to say it is now gutted. I plan to take it apart and then put it back together over the next couple of years. I am still taking it apart to get to the frame. I got slowed down with the construction of a green house to keep it out of the weather this winter. Rhode Island can have snow and ice and just plain rotten weather to work in.

So far I have been reading the forum and gathering knowledge. It appears that what I plan to do has been done before, which is good for me. I really appreciate all of the posts. I will be posting and adding pictures for those who are interested.

Thanks, MR Stuff
PS I am a swamp yanky and my wife says I do not throw anything out. Therefore MR Stuff

Stuff?

Guess what ~ now that you own an Airstream / project, you'll be adding more stuff to your collection. Didn't George Carlin do a comic bit on that?

Glad you found the forums. It really is a valuable wealth of info. Keep us posted on your progress.

Sweet!

Very sweet! I have a 1976 31' Land Yacht Sovereign that I restored back to original, every piece of plastic is now intact!!!
It took me scouring the entire continent, literally, for over a year to get it like that.
Best wishes!
TJH

The damage you describe also suggests frame damage.

Why not get a couple of pontoons and voila!, houseboat. Have your cake and eat it too.

Anchors Aweigh - I remember leaving San Diego (with an anchor on my shoulder) and heading east. When the first person asked me what that was on my shoulder, there I stopped. Welcome to the Forum.
