I just purchased a 1961 Safari, it is pretty much original! It was set up for park camping, and has mostly the original wiring. My plans are to:
1. Make sure it is waterproof (live in South Florida)
2. Put in a dinette and new sofa/bed
3. Update it for boondocking (tanks, and electric)
4. Add solar
Hopefully I can find someone down here in Florida that can help me!!!! Looking forward to meeting new people and creating new friends along the way!
Welcome to the wonderful world of Airstreams. There are a lot of AS owners in the great state of Florida that maybe you can correspond with for quick answers if you have questions. Good luck and have fun, Bubba
Hi from high and dry Colorado: Welcome to the vintage Airstream hobby. Wow, a 61 Safari. What a project it will be. It is a very popular vintage Airstream model. There are many project threads about the renovation or restoration of the Safari. Look in the Airstream Knowledge Base toward the bottom of the Forums page, and then Airstream Trailers, and then Safari, and then the year range of your trailer. Then start reading and reading. You will learn all about it.
Yep, there are folks here who have done what you are wanting to do. Bubba is one of them. They are willing to help you.
Wow, your Safari has already been restored. It is a wonderful looking trailer. Thanks for the pictures.
Have you found the 12v battery in your Safari? Or the 12v fuse panel? That is the place to start. Who knows what the previous owners did and why. I'm sure some folks will chime in and help identify the wire connections you found in the front of the trailer.
David
