Howdy neighbors!

We've had our Airstream for a month and currently transitioning to embrace a minimalist lifestyle and live in it full-time. Hell, I have to say, as rookies - we were both so freaking nervous! We live in Houston and drove to Grand Rapids Michigan to pick it up. I am sooo thankful to the dealership as they allowed us to camp out on their property for 2 nights and taught us the ropes. Then we were off alone down south to Texas. Definitely a lot to learn! Like not to always listen to Google maps as it took us on a shortcut through a bad neighborhood on the south side of Chicago. We also learned if we are going to make a stop somewhere (like KOA of Hot Springs, AK), to check ahead of time if there are any big events happening and not to arrive late at dark! Big mistake! Hubby and I arrived not knowing that weekend was the largest motorcycle rally in AK! I was praying that he wouldn't knock over someone's motorcycle as a few guys hollered at us because we came rather close. Oh man! Sorry for the rambling, yet somehow... it's like therapy for me as I have no doubt many of you can relate to the "rookie stage". With that said, I look forward to your advice / guidance and best practices.

P.S. It was an epic journey indeed through the beautiful countryside and looking forward to more. Just the next time - not as nervous.

Congratulations! Is that a 23' or a 25'?

Hi,
We have learned not to rely on Google Maps or the Garmin when to trying to locate a campground. We always check out the campground website to see if there are tips on directions or read rv reviews of the campground to see if anyone has posted any helpful tips on getting there. This takes a little planning, but well worth it. We also try to pick up a state map at the welcome center when we cross into a new state. They too can be really helpful when looking for a campground.

We can relate to the Chicago experience. On our way out to Mt. Rushmore and Yellowstone in 2015 we made one wrong turn outside of Chicago and wound up in the middle of the 4th of July parade in Gary Indiana. Not a fun experience.

We picked up our 2014 Flying Cloud 25FB Twin in Rochester, Minnesota, so I understand you being overwhelmed. By the way I hope Google didn’t send you to AK, Alaska but to AR, Arkansas. Good luck with your transition. We are just planning to do trips from a few days to a month at a time. That may change over time.

SilverBee- Thank you! Great idea on picking up maps. I think I'll put that into practice. Luckily, my dad was adamant that I learn map reading.

DoubleR- Hahaha.. .yes it was Arkansas. By all means, please do share some spots in Texas if you know of any. We certainly need experience under our belt. Thanks.
