Hello!
I'm so pleased to be starting my journey into the world of Airstream with this forum! I've been lurking for a while, to learn about airstreams, full-timing, renovations, everything!
Fulfilling a dream of mine, I am searching for an Airstream that I will live in while fixing (on land already set aside for me, and with a nearby house, bedroom, and bathroom I can use when necessary), and then from there, onward to the horizon!
I'm a current Austinite, and have been here for eight years, before that I was in mid-Michigan, and am from Stoke-on-Trent, England. I am a sculptor, journalist, former tattoo artist-in-training, current social media guru and coffee nerd.
So right now, I am looking for all the help I can find both here and in my non-digital friend group to guide, inspire, advise, and help me begin a grand new chapter!
I don't have a solid year, length, or model AS that I'm looking for, it's more the condition of the trailer. I've posted a wanted ad that I think sums it up fairly well...
"First time (prospective) owner here! I'm looking for anything from the 60's to the 80's, any length from 22' to 31'. What is the most important to me is the condition of the trailer! I would like to find a solid shell with minimal (or *ideally* no) leaks, good floor, pipes, wires.
I want to rebuild the inside to live and travel full-time solo-style, so I will be re-purposing the interior. For that reason, I must have something that hasn't been lovingly restored... I have no interest in destroying history or anyone's labor of love! I want something that has been brought back part way, but maybe interest was lost, or time became too scarce. Either way, if there's a trailer that is fit for someone who wants to take it from solid to livable, I'd like to know about it!
I'm willing to travel, to pay for good work done that will save me from mechanical or material failures later down the road. I'm very serious about creating something amazing, and am hoping that there is someone who has a trailer that fits the bill! Any leads, advice, or wisdom is appreciated. Thanks, Claire"
I have some mechanical engineering chops, as well as a solid background in art and sculpture. The friends I've enlisted to help are similar, skill-wise. All we need now is an AS that is not a candidate for restoration, that is too far gone for a return to originality. We'll turn it into something amazing.
I hope that there's someone reading this who knows of just such a trailer! It honestly could be in a pretty wide range of conditions, although the closer to sound it is, the happier I am.
Well, that's who I am, why I'm here, and what I'm hoping for in my future Airstream!
Thanks for any words of wisdom, leads on trailers, or stories of your adventures!
Claire
