Bed Topper Question

First of all, I would like to introduce ourselves to this wonderful bunch of helpful, knowledgable fellow Airstreamers! My name is Rose and RJ is my better half! We've never owned an RV until last year. I have read the forums for several years, even before making the plunge to purchase our baby! "Gg" is her name and we bought her after I posted a want ad on the forums! She has quite the story and I'll happily share when we see you in some campground in the future!
We have twin beds and after sleeping on them for 40 nights last summer, we know we either need to upgrade the mattresses OR buy a king sized topper and cut it to size. Here is my concern...I run HOT and hate to see myself "cook to death" in our AS! Costco is great on returns, but a mattress topper cut in half will be hard to slip by them! Ladies, do you have a suggestion? Is there some product out there that will improve the comfort, plus keep me cool?
No one told me how hard it is to have a RV sitting outside during the winter and not be able to GO! We are so ready to clean her up, load her with supplies and head out on the road! Maybe even next week!
I cannot even begin to THANK YOU for being so willing to advise, come alongside and help all of us! There definitely is a learning curve involved and you make it doable!!
Thanks for your help!!

Hi and welcome to the Airstream community. I thought you wanted advice on a new pick up bed topper. I was going to recommend you check out Leer as we like ours. But, there are other kinds of bed toppers I wasn't thinking about.

Many folks like their mattress toppers and you have probably read about them. But usually for more comfortable sleeping. I don't know of one that allows more cooling. My wife opens the window and overhead vent while I shiver under two quilts.

I'll bet some other Airstreamer will have a recommendation for you.

I have read that generally (like when it comes to mattresses for home use) that memory foam /temperpedic type of mattresses hold in the heat.

I don't have any recommendations but do suggest to find out a featherbed topper? Or standard egg crate foam type? Or latex? Bed linen catalogs probably have some reviews to let you know what folks say about them.

We recently purchased a bed for our home that is pretty high tech and helps with keeping you cool. I could explain it, but I'll just post the web page; it's onpurple.com. I absolutely love my purple mattress, and the best part is that if you purchase through their website they give you a 100-day trial period (only 30-days if you buy on Amazon). I'm a hot sleeper too, so this was an easy choice. Good luck on your search!

We bought Sharper Image memory foam toppers at Sam's. It has a cool gel on one side and not on the other. It does feel cool when you first get in bed, but to me the effect seems to disappear after a while. We bought two twins but you could buy a king size and cut it in half. We didn't cut to match the curved end, but I think I will cut mine. The thought was that without cutting the curve, each of us could flip our topper as we wished. With the curve cut we either have to choose cool or not and can't change, or we can cut them the same and then we can swap the toppers and flip them so that we both have the cool side up or both don't.

I purchased a 3"latex topper and a 5" Sedona dense foam mattress from Mattress Insider. I am very pleased with the quality. A Colorado company that makes quality affordable custom mattresses for AS's. Look at there web site. Dixie Norris was very helpful. I did considerable research and thank they are great for price and quality. They guarantee there products.
