Looking for outrigger replacement pics

I probably won't start on this until the weather gets cooler, but I plan to pull some banana wrap and check my outriggers under the fridge area.

Since I am just doing research at this point I'd like to see some photos of outrigger replacement, just in case I have to go there. I'd prefer to see a job done on a late 70's model, which has the shell and flooring still in place.

Seems to me I've heard of bolt-on replacement outriggers but lately all I've been able to find available are ones that you weld on. Bolts would work better for me since I don't weld, though I am willing to learn. Any comments on weld vs bolts are welcome.

I geuss bolt-ons are o.k if it's not too many, but on the other side of that is you will be wekening your frame by drilling through it, personally i'd try and find a friend with a welder. sorry i have no pics as i made a complete new frame with my own styled outriggers!

At long last, a reply. I had thought that welding was the way to go. Might be a good excuse to take an evening welding class at the local vocational school.

If anyone has some photos, I'd still like to see them.

Welding is not that hard, I learnt the basics in 15mins which is all you would need to replace the outriggers, the biggest problem you would have is a mig welder is quite expensive hust to do this one small job, practice and setup is what it's all about.

Hi blickcd!

If you go to our thread "1956 Bubble Restoration -- Bubble Trouble", I believe you will see our new frame with the new outriggers my DH and our friend made. Although, your 31' will more than likely have different lengths of outriggers than our small Bubble, but at least you can get an idea.

I just replaced outriggers on my '78 31' Sovereign. The shell was on, but the floor was out and the bellypan is down, so I don't know if my photos are what you are looking for.

I welded 6 new outriggers today...out of angle iron and plate steel. Came to around $5 each....better than the $27 they get at outdoor mart.

I will have to make up a new one,as the trailer is out at the storage unit. I'll try later today...if it stops raining.

If you make up an outrigger that works it is easy to make a jig for each one you make afterward. Make it out of wood will be easy. Yet you will need to remove wood where you weld or you will have a campfire and we know those are anathema

I also made my own otriggers out of flat plate bent over at the top and then the rounding cut out with an angle grinder, a metal working shop should fold the metal for you cheaply, if you need to cut out the centres for pipes etc you can always ask them to plasma cut the centres out, i wish i had done this on one side of mine as now i want to run gas pipes through and i will be cutting into the galvanised layer, oh well

Well...finally quit raining long enough to get one welded. My son is an 11 year old boy scout. He got his welding merit badge for doing 2 of these. I may add a little spot weld to it....

Hi swampthang7,

I did exactly what you did, however, I sistered up a larger piece of 14 gauge steel to my outriggers, see pictures.

Of note, I made sure the metal shop bent my profile to have at least a 1-1/2" on the 'L' of the outrigger.

Makes it so much easier to rivet the banana wraps back in place.

Replacement outriggers should be welded into place.

Bolts get loose, then welds crack, but they take much longer to crack the the bolts do getting loose.

Replacement outriggers are readily available.

We have provided many of them.

I would certainly get these made up my self rather than buying them as they are little work and cost bugger all to make, i had my metal bent and then just cut the rounding with an angle grinder, end result looked like this!!
