Bad as it looks?

Hi All

We are thinking of buying a 75 29' Ambassador, our first airstream. The trailer looks in great condition, its been very well cared for inside etc... However there is one thing that worries me: the "chassis". Looking next to the rear right wheel, the outrigger has totally rusted through (see pic). So while this trailer looks stunning inside and out, I worry that something bad is going on with the chassis. Am I right to worry, or is this just a typical feature for this outrigger? We plant do quite a bit of miles with this rig and dont want it to fall apart on us.

I have enclosed 3 photos I have of the underside.

Cheers

It appears that the axles are shot as well.

2 things are noticable from your pics. It appears that the tire has been rubbing on the wheel well... And the plate that supports the torsion arm appeard to be bent sideways not straight up as it is on both of my trailers. Look around for broken welds, bolts etc. The RRear appears to have shifted outward and aft. Hows it tow? Or will they not let you do that??

I'm wasn't able to tow it as I didnt have the truck with me.

So it does seem like a real concern for the experts. Thats good to know.

I think I will leave this one and get my second choice that wasn't as well fitted inside, but had a better chassis.
