Question $1,600 for a Convection Upgrade?

Newbie here.

Recently bought a Caravel and the quoted price to swap the microwave to a Convection was quoted to be over $1,600. Can this be right?

I don't see why not. I have been shopping for a convection microwave for my house and the one I like cost $2250.

Recommend you find out the make and model of the oven and price check it, then you can work out how much the labor for install is and work out from there if it is worth your hard earned $$$

In some models the galley cabinet into which the oven is installed is different from that used with a microwave/convection oven, so you may also be paying for the new furniture as well as the oven.

Several of the latest Airstream models, including the new Globetrotters, come with a Contoure brand convection microwave. I'm not sure of the exact model number but if you google Contoure RV convection microwave you will see prices around $400 or less. Even if cabinet modification and some electrical work is required in your Caravelle, $1600 seems pretty high.

You are paying for the additional cabinetry with the gas oven delete when you choose this option.

If you want to keep the gas oven (rather than replace with cabinet drawers) you can simply replace the microwave yourself for about $500 including trim. 4 screws, 10 minutes.

I replaced the original covection/microwave (Sharp) about a year ago....I bought the Contoure, for under $400.00. I had to modify the cabinet slightly to accomodate the Contoure, but not a big deal. The new one works great....

$1,600 is about $800 too much, even if you consider a different cabinet....

For whatever it's worth.

I just replaced my old Sharp micro with the Contoure convection micro @ 2 months ago. The Contoure with the trim kit was just over $500.00.

No changes to the cabinet were required. However, the interior framework supporting the old micro was completely separated from the cabinet so the only thing holding the old micro in place was the trim kit!

Seems high. Our new 28’ international came with a gas oven. We swapped it for a micro / convection and I think they charged $750. That wad cost of oven plus a metal trim closeout. Our model.
