Toilet question

strange question here, but besides the air duct for the heater and the obvious toilet discharge piping, can anyone tell me why there is a 9" pedestal under the toilet? Mine has had teh toilet replaced with a thetford high, so the seat height is about 28" off the floor. If I can remove the pedestal and relocate the toilet down 9" it should be a good height for the family. The other option is to replace the toilet with a lower one, but 9" is a big difference from low to high... Input is appreciated, Thanks!

We have the same issue in our trailer. Doesn't seem to be a good solution.

The pedestal is the upper part of the black water holding tank, or at least it was in my '83. 310. It has a flange on it and then the lower part sticks down further. So, there is no way you can lower or remove the pedestal. Hard to believe that someone put a high profile toilet in replacement for the original Thetford low profile one. PO's do some very strange things.

You will need to replace the toilet with a low profile one.

The original toilet on our '65 caravel was quite high over the black water tank. I replaced it with a low profile Thetford. Nice now.

So not being a good listener I went ahead and tore out the toilet and pedestal convinced I could lower it, which then led to painting the cabinets and walls and redoing the floor. Two thing I learned if you decide to do something similar:
1) The pex line coming up through the floor is actually a gas line inside a pex line, don't cut through it with the propane on...
2) the connection of the toilet flange to the tank is 2 90's (which causes the height) it can be lowered by about 5 inches if you cut off one of the 90's and splice in a 45 degree toilet flange (who knew they made one?).

The end result is that the toilet is now at a usable height, the bathroom looks better, and no more carpet in the toilet room....
