Does the 81 Excella 280 have a parking brake on the drive line?
I was talking to the Gear Vendors guy at Chuck's Speed and RV (Phoenix) yesterday and he was very familiar with Airstream Classic Motorhomes but had never installed one on a 280 with the Isuzu diesel. The first question he asked me is if it had the parking brake (drum) down stream from the TH 400 on the drive line. I was stumped. I don't recall seeing this in my crawls under the coach. He needs to know to give me an accurate quote (got the impression if the answer was yes our price went up). I will go look today but I thought I would check with the AirForums brain trust first. So do we have this?

No. It doesn't.
Finally had an opportunity to crawl under the Excella this morning and down stream from the TH 400 is a short cross member, almost like a skid plate for the first U-joint and then the first drive shaft. No brake drum.

I'm most curious what it has for a parking brake. Does it have drum brakes on the rear axle? If it has disc brakes aft I'm really curious?

Rear drums
It has rear drums on the dually wheels. From page 1-35 of the shop manual:
- Never drive vehicle with parking brake set as this may overheat or otherwise damage rear brakes.
Nice to have the manual but I still had to go look.

Drum brakes answers the question. I wonder if all 81' and earlier have drum brakes or if discs were an option? Apparently 82' and later had disc front and rear.

Ah yes, Our '82 28 footer had four wheel disks; that must have been the turning point.

Another thought, I have a 79' GMC 5000 with drums all around and a drive shaft parking brake. I guess the lads at GM did things somewhat randomly.
