converting or adding electric awning to 1987 34.5

I have an 87 34.5. Have a manual zip dee awning. Would like to go to electric 12v awning. I called zip dee and they told me the conversion kit is $3300 but the 87 does not have enough room over the door for conversion. Has anyone made it work on an older classic like mine or is there another company that sells one that will fit the contour? The $3300 is the kit only and it appears to be a fairly involved install. Any advice or help would be appreciated.

If it was an easy swap, I would like to trade you my electric awning for your manual. ZipDee has made improvements over the years with the Relax awning, but I know it is just a matter of time before mine will either fail or act up. I've already had one incident.

The funny thing is, I miss the manual awning . . .

I would say get yourself some brand new Sunbrella in a pattern you like and make yours look new again.

Ok, so the electric awning idea is off the table but now thinking about the electric paper towel dispenser.

They make them. D-size batteries, special size paper towel rolls. Available at Sam’s Club or Costco. Big, bulky, and very convenient if you are into “touchless” technology.

Have one at home, but too big to mount in my Airstream.

Yes, this! When we got our 2016 27FB I wanted the manual awning due to the issues some were having with the Relax awning. Unfortunately the Relax was standard and no manual awning was available for our model.

Well, true to form, my awning has quite working and despite long discussions with Zip Dee and a replacement control board we have a scheduled repair date at Jackson Centre in the Spring. Can not wait to see the repair bill.

I believe you are looking for Leslie Chimes. And if you put air bags on your tow vehicle with a big enough air storage tank you could actually use them.

Thank you. Thinking you steered me away from an error. Deploying the manual awning is not a big deal but a process. I am ok with that. I was just thinking but so often that does no payoff.
