1988 345... The adventure begins!

Yeah maybe. Unfortunately I don’t think I can get the system in quickly enough so I may have to reinstall those and then pull them again next year.
As I live in town and could not risk breaking an exhaust bolt while parked on the street in front of the house I had to bring it to the truck shop.
They are starting the work tonight (24hrs shop and they use these RV jobs to keep the night shift busy between emergencies) so I will see tomorrow. Hopefully nothing breaks.
If they reinstall the manifolds it will make changing them again next summer easier for me.
What are the details of the banks system? All they seem to list is for Ford motorhomes.

Hmm, interesting, last I checked they were still available, now only 454 96-2000.

Somebody else (jimbro) reported on here in 2016 that he called them and they stopped production for the 454 of our era.
Not sure the newer 454 exhaust will work. I will give them a call tomorrow and see what they say.

that is sad. Even the link you have says ''call for availability'' and the same kit from Summit says ''not available''

We put a set of new Doug Thorley headers on ours a couple of years ago, had to wait awhile for a batch to be made. So far so good. Receipts are far away with the coach and I'm not sure who the vendor was, probably Summit.

I don’t follow this logic. The bike and hitch weight wouldn’t be any different than adding 400lbs anywhere else in or on the coach. Weather or not the hitch would structurally handle the weight hanging out there is a different issue. Towing capacity is is more a function of the braking capacity of the coach which is the total weight of the coach and towed load.

Maximum hitch weight is a function of the structural capacity of the hitch and the suspension system.

Not trying to start an argument. That’s my opinion.

I personally don’t like the twisting load put on a receiver hitch by bike racks. I prefer the two point frame mounts for motorcycle mounts. I’ve built them with two receiver hitches. One off each frame rail.

400 lbs of tongue weight would affect steering and braking. 400 lbs of weight distributed elsewhere in the coach likely only affect braking.

And then you have to add the force of that extended object, when you hid bumps. Having pulled Airstream trailers for many thousands of miles, I know the importance of using weight distribution bars, that actually move the weight forward all the way to the front axle (affect on Steering)
How much of that applies to our long motorhomes is debatable, a trip to a scale could shed some light on it.
My 400 pound tongue /4k trailer weight example was just to look at what hitch manufacturers use for their ratings.

I will try to take a trip to the scale and see how the weight is distributed, that would be interesting.
Driving with less water could also help this weight distribution. While not quite as far back, the fresh water tank of 80gal weighs about 600lbs.
I’ll measure the c.o.g. For both and make a comparison of the moment it creates.

1988 345... The adventure begins!

Well well…. New compressor, new txV, new accumulator dryer. It holds the 2.925 pounds of r134a but still blows warm…. The dryer gets cold but both hoses on the compressor remain hot. I’ll have some diagnostic to do!

Oh yeah, and manifold gasket replaced. I’ll likely do headers during the winter.

7819 is what I used. I do not know enough about it to determine if your compressor is at fault. All I see is that the 7819 is 134a specific. Just curious. did you replace the high pressure line?

Did you put a different txV as well?
I thought compressors were able to do both…

No, I was unable to remove txV and gave up. HP line would not keep it from cooling, but they are the ones prone to leak. Appears yours is able to do both with different oils...
I did use about the same amount of 134a

The tech doing the work called around to his colleagues and was saying that some recommended to try maybe a bottle of the red tek stuff that is compatible with both r12 and R134a. He said sometimes that’s all they need…. Seems odd. I wanted to stay away from that stuff but maybe I’ll have to give that a try and see.

Are you using the R134a temperature/pressure charts to determine
if your system is full? I am struggling with these same issues too.

I haven’t been using those charts. I should check how to use them. I just went with how much folks out here have said to put in. R12 capacity appears to be 3.25lbs or 30-35oz, and we go to 90% of that for r134a.
Maybe I should look at those charts.
