Coil spring

Hello everyone
I need to change in my motorhome argosy (1977) the front springs, someone knows the part number or if someone changes them for a super duty, I would like to know where they bought them
Thank you
Herman

Before you change out the springs, have you checked the the air bags in them?
If they are OK and have good pressure, these people have coil springs, but I have never tried them:

Shouldn't you have air bags inside the springs? I do on my 250.

Look here, I would expect you to have a similar set up. The air ride bags for the P32 are widely available in Europe, either through the company split window sent or another outlet. I found these people to be the cheapest supplier of bags for my 250.

I purchased these, you might need different

Herman,
I believe all the motorhomes were originally designed to have air bags inside the springs. I have driven mine without air in the bags and find it to be down right scary to drive. With 55psi in the airbags it drives beautifully It is amazing what a difference it makes. If you don't get a compressor (which is what I did) you can install a couple air bags for about $100. You can install them in about 2 hours. I would highly recommend that you put air bags on it before you go to all the trouble of replacing the springs.

77 Argosy Air Bags

Herman,

My 1977 Argosy came new from the factory with air bags in the front coil springs. When new the front sat at the correct height. Also the Argosy handled dips in the road really well. As time passed I noticed that the front sat lower and dips and bumps were alarming. The motorhome sat for 20 years. By that time the bag material had hardened and disintegrated. When I started reworking everything 2 years ago, I had the front air bags replaced with AirLift brand bags and the proper front height returned as well as good handling over dips and bumps.

The Chevy motorhome chassis owners manual addresses these air bags and the proper inflation pressure range.

I would certainly try replacement air bags as intended by Chevy before replacing the springs.

Don't forget a pair of new SS crank bells to tighten up the steering.

Cheers

Not all....the early/short Argosy's didn't, although they were fitted as standard by around 1977.

That said you can get Supersteer coils which do away with the bags (at the front). You tell them the weight on the front axle they they supply correctly rated replacements.

Hello everyone
My argosy came with airbag, but I want you to understand I live in germany and here for the MOT is different l from USA. The airbags have to be certified by the European Union, if they are not so I can not install it, I have to present a certificate with the specifications and tests by different security department.
I bought those airbags that Boom sounds has detailed in the forum, but unfortunately they are without international certification.
I only have one possibility, buy some here in Germany with papers, imagine how much they cost, a lot

Hi Herman,

I am surprised by this because I thought we had agreed automotive standards and products across the EU. Intermotiv is a UK registered company, and given that the UK is still part of the EU, I would have thought the products Intermotiv sell work across the wider market. I am more than happy to speak to them if it helps, PM me if you are interested.

all the best
Nick
