In response to the request for info on the electric situation. I got the same form letter as everyone else.
Sue called the office and after the usual bureaucratic run around was able to talk to someone named Tom Hartly(?)
Pretty much the same info that we’ve managed to find out. No juice this year at all.Supposedly there are problems in all the parks. One Park needs a bridge. Pec River is the lowest grossing park of the 3 campgrounds so it’s on hold.
Estimated repair/replacement for the service is $65,000. There is the possibility that this could be included in the 2014 budget.
They say the squeaky wheel gets the grease. I’ve compiled the Board members names and addresses if you’d like to let them know what you think of the situation.

With the downpours this week I’ve been fighting sump pumps and a wet basement so I didn’t have a chance to check out the other parks yet. At least I’ve had a chance to start getting the trailer ready.

See you soon,
Tom

To day we received a e-mail from Vaughn of the WCFPD. He has requested that we reschedule our rally to a different campground. Does anyone have a suggestion as to where to go?

Sue and I were wondering if this was a hint, not so subtle suggestion, or, a veiled warning about having a large group using the park at this time.
We were thinking they might lock the gates to the campground, leaving the shelter and trails open for single day picnickers and hikers.
When Roger and Dee told us they weren’t hosting anymore Mike and I looked at the other parks.
Seward is closer to Pecatonica, but the sites aren’t arranged as well for groups as they are at Pec.
Sugar River might be better for a group but is further out, road conditions made it seem more difficult to get to, and, there isn’t any town close by if you need supplies.
Haven’t been to Hononegah but that’s way up by Rockton and the Wisconsin border.
I would suggest Seward Bluffs. It’s close to Pec, was in fairly good condition last year and they were paving and installing new sites or some other facility last year when we drove through.
I'll try to drive out this weekend.

Tom

Well, I see that there is some debate on where to go so that we have electricity. My trailer is with out propane or battery, so electricity would be a must for half of my family. Seward seems like the logical choice as it is closest to out usual haunt.

I throw in my vote for Seward.

OK I see that I have typing issues..... Lori is wondering about Rockcut. It is a little further for some, but not too bad......

Ted; good thought, requires reservations through Reserve America. At this date would require better timing to get everyone together.

For what it is worth, here is a little information on Seward.
http://www.wcfpd.org/assets/pdf/trai...ard_Bluffs.pdf

Looking at the map, it looks like the southwest corner is the spot.

Here is a link to the "web" page

we vote to stay within winnebago forest preserves, they have been great to us over the years and could use our camping revenues now more than ever. We have stayed at sugar river in the past, flip a coin. heads sugar river, tails seward or on edge pecatonica, makes no difference. If the campsites spaces are tight we could all throw in and get a center site that could be used as our group space. no big deal. the state parks are 3x the cost and are patrolled (no alchohol) at an alarming rate, 75 bucks a ticket i think.

we prefer NOT hearing generators run all day

Okay, we're keeping an eye on the updates - looks like Seward (sp?) is the current location.

Sue and I went out to Seward Bluffs this morning. The park is in pretty good condition with plenty of open spaces.
We’re thinking the of using some of the pull thrus and sites on the west side of the loop. Pull thrus are paved and show on the map. Gravel and grass sites are to the southwest.
There is a campground host on site but they weren’t there when we were.
Took some pics and enlarged the inset map.

New and old friends and a new campground.
