Cloudland Canyon State Park, GA

Just got back from several days near Chattanooga. Not a huge deal, but our first of the season. Stayed at Cloudland Canyon state park, which is about 15 miles south of Lookout Mtn. It's a short, but interesting climb up from the interstate to the top of the ridge, but the sites are nice:

And the view from just a few hundred feet away from the campsite is not bad at all:

Nice pictures!!! That is a pretty park. We stayed there for one night in February......on the way back from picking up our new Airstream in Tennessee. We woke up to snow the next morning, and it was in the teens overnight. We plan to go back when we have more time. The sites are very nice.

Very nice pictures of the park and your rig. I live in GA but I have not been to that park yet . Looks like a place to take the DW and our newest addition who is 9 weeks old and our fury family members as well. By the way RedSHED what site were you on to have that view ? Thanks for posting those pictures.

The site itself doesn't have that view, but it is a very short walk away. I think we were on site 30, on the upper or eastern camping area. While they take reservations, I don't believe they reserve individual sites.
Across the street from us were some cabins, and beyond those, by 10-15 feet was the edge of the canyon. There's a pretty steep trail that leads to a waterfall.

There is a rim trail that is just north of the cabins, and it is from this trail I took the canyon pic. It goes north-ish another quarter mile or so before dropping to a rock outcrop which rests at a point where two small ravines join to form the canyon.

There is a decent playground a little ways to the right of the truck pic, far enough back from the rim to keep parents sane.

Cloudland Camping

Those pictures are fantastic. We love Cloudland. The hike from one campground to the other is great (but a little strenuous). It takes you down to a beautiful waterfall.

There are so many nice GA State Parks, it is in the top 5.

One of the first forum rallys I went to was at Cloudland Canyon. I thought it was great for hiking. I'm looking forward to going back again sometime.

We went to the state park for the 4th of July weekend and had a great time . Our little one is now 6 months old and she is taking to airstreaming very well. This is a beautiful park with nature trails , breathtaking views, and waterfalls. We did not see the waterfalls this time due to lack of rain and that will be something to look foreward to for the next trip there.Redshed really inspired me with his photos and it was worth it .The sites are large and shaded of course there are small sites also. If you are ever in the Trenton GA area this is nice state park to visit. Davis

While Hiawassee seems to be the ticket for forum rallies lately, I sure would like to go back to Cloudland Canyon State Park again.

we have enjoyed a few trips to Cloudland. Many Georgians have never heard of it. The two waterfall hakes are great though my wife almost broke her ankle at the bottom of one. That trip ended at the hospital

Cloudland Canyon is awesome - had almost forgotten it - it's been a number of years now. Great hiking trails, nice and cool when you get down near the bottom. Well worth the trip!

Actually, I was kind of thinking it was in Alabama - it's that close if I remember correctly.

You are correct. It is almost in Alabama and almost in TN as well. We have been there several times and each time, the weather has blessed us with a different challenge.

I don't think the 2 CGs there could handle anything the size of Springstream or Falluminum. It would be fun to have a smaller group there. Forget about this Fall. I bet it is already booked for most weekends.

There will be a GA-TAC gathering at Cloudland Canyon September 2-5, 2011. The event has been entered into Air Forum but is yet showing. You can see the details at the TAC website calendar at The Airstreamer's Club under the calendar.

Hi from Ga. . .Cloudland is a great park. My teenage son & I spent Thanksgiving weekend (Fri-Sun) there 3 or 4 years ago. Weather was great and we enjoyed it. Only problems were a crowd of Dawg fans drinking and loudly watching the game on a BIG outdoor TV ! They didn't last too far into the night though It's a pretty area. Chattanooga has lots for small persons to do for a day trip as well. Regards, Craig

Sounds like a beautiful park.
We thought we would be visiting a few weeks ago for a cross bike race but the venue was changed. I guess they couldn't get the details worked out.
They moved the race to Camp Jordon, TN and we stayed in the Cartersville Wal-Mart on the way.
Now that I've read all the nice things about Cloudland Canyon I am even more disappointed about the venue change.
I guess we'll have to make it our next destination when we want a quick camping get-away.
Has anyone noticed if it is a popular place for bicyclists? My husband loves to pedal up steep climbs.
