Is it March yet???

I would've chimed in sooner, but my precious pocket kitty, Stella, whom we adopted 12-ish yrs ago, took ill and died day before yesterday. I just hadn't the heart to be sociable.

I love Pedernales because it feels so big. Blanco is more scenic, but it feels more "crowd-y".

Thanks, John, for counting me in. I'm SOOO there!

Chas, I think you should bring 'em both!

Holly

So sorry to hear about your cat. We have 3 cats and the oldest, at about 16, is starting to slip. I'm having a hard time thinking about losing him. Three years ago, our diabetic Siamese died in my arms, so I know how bad it hurts.

To all:

I think we'll have a ball out there. I'm going out early Friday and do my usual 7-mile hike if anyone wants to join me. It's not too strenuous, just a long way through some nice scenery.

Do we want to do a pot-luck Saturday night? Maybe grill steaks with pot-luck side dishes?

Question A thought

John,

If you arrive early and we provide you with our full names, would you mind asking the park if they could provide us with sites that are fairly close together?

How about Saturday morning taking a 2-3 mile stroll ?

As far as dinner, I'm up for anything & I like all foods!!

John

p.s. Holly, glad you're going to make it out there with Globey!

Yes. I'll get there good and early on Friday. If folks provide me with their names, when arriving, and confirmation numbers, I'll try to get all Friday arrivals close together. Then, I will go over to park HQ early Saturday morning and try to get any Saturday arrivals close by, also.

We have commonly done that in the past on other rallys. They will not assign any sites ahead of the day of arrival, but if one of the group goes to HQ early on the day of arriva with the informationl, he/she can get the sites assigned right then, ahead of the rush. Then, when folks come in, they just have to ask at HQ what their site numbers are.

John

I'd love to take a short hike Saturday morning. There are plenty of hiking opportunities.

John,

How far is the park from you? My thinking is(we all know that this can be dangerous ) if you could go by Thursday with Fridays arrivals and tie up those sites. Or is this not need because Friday is early enough?

Again, my mind is ALWAYS spinning-John

Sorry

They will not assign a site till the day of arrival. That is TPWD policy. Technically, the site may even still be occupied until 2pm of that day by the previous user, but the site can be assigned earlier in the day.

That is why I said I would come early Friday for the Friday folks and go to park HQ early Saturday to get sites for any Saturday arrivals. That's the best we can do.

I'll be sure to pack heavy on groceries, do some baked potatoes with all the fixins and be ready for whatever comes up, plenty of firewood and propane for my outdoor grille.

I would say everyone just bring what they enjoy and a little extra. And another thing, my wife will be with me so any of you ladies can come as well, it won't be a total guy thing. She don't cook so don't be expecting much from her, that's my department I guess. I will p.m. Pahaska with my info so he can get the sites together.

The fairer sex

My wife will probably come out Saturday sometime and stay that night. She's still in the work force. I'll be there well before noon Friday.

When we're on the road, I'm the cook and bottle washer.

Talking Groceries

John,

I'll be arriving around noon on Friday and then maybe we can put our heads together on what's needed for Saturday's dinner & I'll make a run to the store(hopefully there's one close by)

Not too far

About 10 country road miles into Johnson City is the closest place. Small town America personified.

I had a Scottish co-worker who became quite incensed after driving to Johnson City and finding a very small town. He couldn't understand how we Americans could call something a city that he didn't consider a city.

Maybe too late ...

I just looked at Reserve America and it appears that all sites are taken. I have in the past, however, been able to get a site over the phone even though Reserve America says there are no sites available.

Of course, it is close enough to Austin that folks can drive out for the day.

March Rally

Hi,
We just finalized the deal on our A/S and would like to join all of you for the March rally. Any idea if there are any sites left, and if so do you have a contact number or url so I can make our reservations right away? When does everyone usually show up?

We live in Montgomery, TX so it won't be a terribly long trip for us.

Looking forward to seeing everyone there!

Reservations phone number

The number for the TPWD reservations system is (512)389-8900

Lots of the time I fine Reserve America says they are all full but the phone number has sites. Also, you can call once in a while to see if there are cancellations.
