The earlier 2.7L 5-cylinder was the engine pre-2006 that had all of the turbo resonator problems. the 3.0L 6-cylinder does not use the same arrangement, hence no 'goat bag' resonator. I have 103,000 miles on my 2011 Sprinter and have not had any turbo problem........yet!
Perhaps the new 4 cylinder base engine that Mercedes is now supplying with their 7-speed auto tranny has a new resonator that they are once again having problems with, but I am not familiar with that engine arrangement.

I never had a failure, but replaced my original in my '05 Sprinter with the Riordan aluminum replacement as a preventative item, and never had a problem.
V6 engined Sprinters can have a problem with the charge hose seal - both of the guys above carry a replacement aftermarket piece for that, as well.
Mercedes and Dodge need to read these posts,
The manufactures rep. told me they didn't think that they had a problem
Thanks to all,
Ted
By the way I have a 05 interstate and I love it
Seems the resonators only split under heavy loads. So if there are still some five cyl out they, they must have been babied or very low mileage. The first ones were replaced with identical oe ones until the dealers got smart and ordered the newer ones. Best bet is still the aluminum ones, fix ir right and forget it. Jim
I think we are 5 cylinder, and....delightedly....have not been low mileage.
Sounds like we found an ethical dealer in Knoxville, TN. Kudos to them.
Don't they know people talk?
I'd like to think that all people...and entities, you know who you are...without functioning moral compasses, will reap what they have sown at some point.
I'm going to shut up on this now, as I feel a small rant coming on.
