27FB Turning Radius - Driveway to Backyard

After five years, I’m becoming less enamored of living away from my AS. I’d love to spend time in it, tinkering with it, and making repairs while it’s at my home. Currently I live in a condo so that’s not an option. Starting the search to sell my condo and buy a house with a yard with the requirement that I can park the AS in the backyard.

Here in my part of Southern California, there are a lot of post-WWII-era homes on huge lots with long driveways and a detached garage in the back of the driveway.

I’m trying to figure out what kind of clearance I’ll need to move the AS up the driveway and then angle it into the backyard. I’m also thinking a trailer dolly would probably be a good investment.

Does anyone have any experience with this or insight? I searched and found some really old threads but nothing definitive. Thanks!

I would suggest taking your rig to a large shopping center [etc.] parking lot, and trying a variety of parking and backing maneuvers. Use the parking space grid lines to set up a conceptual framework for measuring turning radiuses etc. Have a 100' tape measure on hand. Your rig's total combined length is an important data point. Unlikely you will be able to drive the rig down a driveway, and then turn around at the end to park the trailer, in a standard residential setup IMO.

Using a trailer dolly on sloped driveways may be more problematic, although the top models seem to have their own brakes, and to allow you to apply the trailer's brakes.

Not sure how you searched, but FYI/FWIW here are some "trailer dolly valet" search results --

Good luck,
