vandal access / window
The window beside the door on my 25' Safari has been broken 2x now by vandals, to reach in and unlock door. Has anyone else had this problem and come up with a deterrent?
Both were obviously Juvies, but the second time around things got nasty! They smashed out all roadside windows, pulled off curtains, panels, furnace door and tossed everything.
Need ideas to make more secure! Thanks!

So sorry to hear about your experiences. It's difficult to guard against that kind of malicious vandalism. Perhaps some kind of motion detecting system that utilizes lighting or alarms to scare people off but, really, if someone is determined to trash your trailer, car, or what have you they're going to do it regardless. Where were you parked when this stuff happened?

I think you need to move. Electrifying the shell with a horse fencer would help.

Hi
If this was in storage - find a different storage location. If this was while camping, pick better places to camp. In 50+ years of camping (both in tents and trailers) we've never yet had a tent or trailer broken into. Needless to say, tents are a lot easier to mess with.
======
If you decide to keep the trailer in the same location, remove the window and replace it with an aluminum panel. Do the same to the window in the door. Best guess is the net result is a different window broken to gain access. If so, replace those windows with aluminum sheets as they are broken out.
=====
Bear traps and electrified shells are a great way to piss somebody off big time. Best guess is they come back with a can of gasoline and a match .....

um....on second thought, I had never imagined retaliation, arson style.
I think the plate over the window is a better idea.

That's awful! I would be looking for a more secure storage location. We have been in our storage location for 10 years - has live in managers and video monitoring. Would not go to anything less.

Maybe you could replace the glass with Lexan. Something thick. It will graze over time, but it's very hard to break through and still lets you have a window in the mean time.

We live in an unincorporated neighborhood that enables homeowners to park large trucks, boats, construction equipment, RV's, etc. on street and front yards nearby. Needless to say, there are some homeowners who find this annoying (to say the least). And, there is always someone looking to "payback." Again, where is the rig parked?

Razor blades and barb wire on the inside door handle. Ouch!!!
Shotgun with a string tied to door handle.
Crossbow and . . . . Oh never mind.

Sorry to hear that. I can't imagine what you must feel.
There really is no 100% deterrent against crime.
I would just relocated to a "safer" area.

You need surveillance cameras and motion detectors.
We'd all like to know where you're parked for this to happen twice. 🤨

Buy a link or nest security camera. When someone walks up it alerts your phone. If to much traffic in the area then place inside. May not stop the break in, but you have them on camera for police.

My TT is parked at my business location on the parking lot which is lit. However, it was parallel to the building for easy access to plug in etc. This kept the door side hidden from passer bys. While the TT was at the dealers for repair we had a street light installed and parked it horizontally from the building, under said light, and it is now in full view of adjoining properties cameras and the road. We are hopeful that CSI will find these vandals on said camera, and with the fingerprints and dna collected.
If we were to do something that would hurt them, I fear worse retaliation. After they smashed our electric meter and cut all phone lines, thinking they disarmed our security, tried to open the building door, which set off a siren and sent them running. Police arrived promptly. This action should have all been on camera, which CSI took, and we were told it takes approx. 7 months for results from various labs.
Farmers Insurance was a dream to work with. Out of Doors Mart, N.C. made perfect repairs, even fixing an A/C leak at n/c. We missed a season, but fortunate they did not trash the whole trailer. Windows, curtains, hot water heater board, furnace access door and exhaust pipe, relaminated panels. Repairs complete and we just got it back. Just wary of bored kids looking for entertainment at my expense.

Perhaps I have to look for an alarm that would sound when the door is opened when armed. Anyone have this?

I put up cheap dummy cameras around some merchandise at my store and theft dropped dramatically. It’s amazing how differently people act when they think they’re being watched.
I recommend prominent use of cameras.
