Out of the pasture and into the driveway!!!

Brought it home yesterday. So much work to do.....we've decided to go with a "minimalist Southeast Asian tropical zen-den" instead of the aviation theme, due to time & money constraints. Maybe our next AS will be the "Boeing" model.

Hey isn't that....

"Air" Force One? I bet that may be the first Argosy I've seen with Airstream on the banner body striping. It cleaned up nicely! Ed

Really,

How about a closeup of that logo on the front of the stripe?

I'll get the closeup of the logo in the next few days. "Alumavana"...LOL, love it! Here is the dirty secret...the inside....I may be parting out the very original parts & pieces in favor of a lot of customizations....

As in Aluminum nirvana..........it's as close as it gets to the zen thing....

My son named my 27' Overlander the 'Chrome pine cone'....
Love it...

I could see the whole floor covered with about two inches of white sand and a few large boulders, with those sand raked designs in the sand, cool......

Love it!
It looks like its sitting up higher than the photo of it in the field, is it?
We just got ours and when I first looked at it , the torsion arms were pointed right down. By the time I got it home they were shifted up past horizontal.
I wonder if that is characteristic?
What's the "Zen Den" thought? I have zero imagination and am desperate for ideas to beg borrow or steal!!

Cheers

Bex

So the maiden voyage is underway....great news! The PO, or someone in the line of owners, redid all the plumbing with PEX!!!!! Only 1 small leak on the dump valve right at the water tank. It's a cheap plastic model, so a little bit of replacing should take care of it. The toilet is nearly new too. All electrical is working great, the A/C blows super cold. Next to tackle is the gas system, which was not hooked up at all - but we did get 2 nearly new propane tanks, just need the hoses/fittings so we can hook it up & check it out.

Besides the family of mice (that we "relocated..."), this looks like a pretty superficial job. The cabinets are shot, but most of the overhead/underneath cabinet doors (tambour) are in great condition. On the down side, there is some subfloor damage that will need to be replaced, and the fridge is kaput (I'll post a separate thread on that). All in all, for what we paid for it ($1600, now about $2200 into it with WD hitch and $400 to the CA DMV) it seems like we got a fantastic deal.

After we towed it home, it seemed like it did ride a little higher and it towed great. Going to need some new tires, and there is a lot of rust underneath to inspect, but no major problems so far.

The solar works great, after a new marine battery (Specialty Concepts Mark 20 controller, but we have no idea what the panel is - it is mounted on the rear roof). Going to drop the awning as soon as we get it in a permanent location.

Let the remodel begin! the "Zenden" is going to be a complete interior rebuild, in off white & greens, focusing on simplicity and functionality. We are not Airstream "purists", so the interior will be radically different than the original, although the outside will remain a pure Argosy look. I'm shuddering at the costs, but 3 spots down from me is a new Airstream, and for that 70k I can build the Zenden, send the daughter to college, rewardrobe myself, and take a month vacation.

YAH!

Great looking '78 27 ft. My wife and I have the exact year and size and we just had it painted. (did all the interior work ourselves). What is the basic color of yours? If you go to jjustice in the registry you can view ours. Good luck and good find. jjustice

You need to re-visit your priorities.
Zenden, wardrobe, holiday and if anything left, college.

Please stay on the forum and show us your progress, I need inspiration for when I get to our interior as it looks like someone else got all of mine

No worries, I'll stick around. I've also got a blog that will tell the entire story with a lot more pictures. Oh, and the college plan is a partial retirement plan, but my daughter is only 7, so who knows where we'll go with the fund.... ;-)

Has anyone seen those logo's before? Or was that something that someone designed?

Hi,
Could you possibly send me a pic of the door that covers the cabinet above the flush? I just acquired a 79 Arogosy and that door is missing. A pic would help me to knonw what to build there if possible.
If you do part out some parts, I may be interested in some of it.
Thanks is advance. You may reply directly to me, dan72ali@yahoo.com.
